Jake Knapp has withdrawn from the 2026 Memorial Tournament

The official PGA Tour communications team confirmed Knapp's withdrawal from the Jack Nicklaus-hosted signature event at Muirfield Village on Tuesday afternoon.

The American has been replaced in the field by Sudarshan Yellamaraju, marking the Canadian's fourth appearance in a $20m event this season.

Yellamaraju, 24, reached the PGA Tour via the developmental Korn Ferry Tour. He is enjoying a spectacular campaign, with multiple top-10 finishes, including a standout fifth at the Players in March.

No reason was given for Knapp's withdrawal, but it may be the case that the 32-year-old has still not fully recovered from a left wrist injury that first flared up at the end of April.

The issue caused the world number 40 to withdraw from back-to-back signature events (Truist Championship, Cadillac Championship) as well as the PGA Championship in Pennsylvania.

Knapp, a former bouncer, captured his sole PGA Tour victory in February 2024 at the Mexican Open.

His game has been lauded by the likes of Rory McIlroy, who claimed Knapp could be a superstar after playing alongside him at PGA National.

Whilst Knapp has yet to add to his one victory on Tour, he shot a 59 in the first round of the Congizant Classic last February. It represented the 15th sub-60 round in PGA Tour history.

He began this season very strongly, posting four top-10s from five starts before missing the cut at the 2026 Players.

Knapp also played well at the Masters, finishing in a share of 11th at Augusta National.

He has not played since the RBC Heritage in late April.

Knapp isn't the only high-profile player to withdraw from the penultimate signature event of the season.

Norway's Viktor Hovland, a former winner of the Memorial, has also pulled out.

But the European Ryder Cup star did not provide a reason

Collin Morikawa is also skipping the tournament in Ohio as he continues to recover from a back injury.

World number one Scottie Scheffler, 29, headlines the 72-player field this week.

The American is making his first start since the PGA Championship.

Scheffler, who won the Memorial in 2024 and 2025, is attempting to become the first player since Steve Stricker in 2011 to win the same PGA Tour event three years in a row.

Stricker completed his hat-trick of wins at the John Deere Classic.

McIlroy, 37, is also teeing it up for the first time after a two-week break.

The Northern Irishman is scheduled to give a news conference tomorrow.
