Hideki Matsuyama defeated Alex Noren with a birdie on the first extra hole to win his second Hero World Challenge at Albany in The Bahamas, and he thanked tournament host Tiger Woods for firing him up for the challenge.
Matsuyama and Noren fired brilliant final-rounds of 64 to finish the week at 22-under par, and then the Japanese star sealed the deal by firing a dart to within three feet on the par-4 18th.
Matsuyama, 33, now bookends his season with victories having started the year with a win at The Sentry in Hawaii.
The 2021 Masters champion was making his first start in Woods' Hero World Challenge since 2018.
Matsuyama is now a two-time Hero World Challenge winner having also won the title in 2016.
After the round, the 11-time PGA Tour winner admitted his childhood hero Woods fired him up earlier in the day by saying he would shoot a round of 62.
That wasn't quite the case, but it was close.
"Tiger told me to shoot 10-under today, and although I didn't shoot 10-under I was very happy to card a 64 and to win this week," said Matsuyama.
Woods also told Matsuyama his yellow shirt would bring him good luck in the final round.

For Noren, the runner-up finish caps an impressive 2025 campaign that was highlighed by two wins at the British Masters and BMW PGA on the DP World Tour.
Noren was three shots behind his playing partner Matsuyama with four holes to play but the Swede rallied to the line, making birdie from 25 feet on the 18th to force a playoff.
"I was three down with four to play and for some reason I felt I could still do it," admitted Noren after the tournament.
"I had the feeling as I felt I was playing good enough, but unfortunately just didn't put enough pressure on Hideki with my second shot in the playoff.
"It's tough to lose like this but it's a great feeling to take into next year."
Noren takes home a consolation prize of $450,000 for his week's efforts.
Overnight leader Sepp Straka could only manage a 68 and he finished one shot out of the playoff on 21-under par.
JJ Spaun (65) and Scottie Scheffler (68) rounded out the top five on 20-under par.
Scheffler was looking to become the first player in history to win the Hero World Challenge three years on the bounce, but it was not to be.
The World No.1 ends the season with six victories on the board, including another two majors, as he continues to look down on the rest in the Official World Golf Rankings.
After having taken the best part of two months off to work on his game and spend time with his family prior to this week, Scheffler admits the things he has been working on came together nicely at Albany.
Scheffler was also pleased to see early progress with his new TaylorMade Qi4D Driver, which will launch at retail in early 2026.
"I definitely felt like some of the stuff I've been working on the last few weeks I saw some progress here, and the stuff I was focused on in the offseason, definitely saw some progress here as well, so it's a good place to be," Scheffler told reporters after the final round.
