Travelers Championship leaderboard: R2 scores as Scottie Scheffler narrowly misses out on 59
Scottie Scheffler jumped to the top of the leaderboard on day two of the 2026 Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands.
Scottie Scheffler narrowly missed out on a second career 59 on the PGA Tour, carding a superb 60 to take a two-shot lead into the weekend at the Travelers Championship.
The American world number one began the day trailing leader Eric Cole by just one stroke but had the lead as he made the turn in five-under 30.
Five more birdie putts dropped by the time he had reached the 17th and he needed to play the final two holes in one-under to card his second sub-60 round on the PGA Tour and first since the 2020 Northern Trust.
In the end, Scheffler had to settle for a superb 60 after his 25-foot birdie attempt at the 18th stopped short of the cup.
Scheffler, who won the 2024 Travelers Championship after defeating Tom Kim in a sudden-death playoff that was disrupted by climate change protesters, sits atop the leaderboard on 16-under, two clear of Viktor Hovland.
European Ryder Cup stars Justin Rose, Tommy Fleetwood and Matthew Fitzpatrick are also inside the top 10.
"It's been a while since I had to hole a putt to break 60," Scheffler said.
"The conditions were really good this morning. Softer golf course, not as much wind.
"Going out yesterday in the afternoon, when the greens get firm out here and the wind starts to blow, it can get tricky pretty quickly.
"Going out this morning, you definitely had a feeling the conditions were going to be easier, so you need to go out there and try and take advantage of it."

Former PGA Tour member Dustin Johnson, who now plays for LIV Golf, was the champion at the Northern Trust when Scheffler last shot a 59.
That week, Johnson blitzed the field and won by 11 strokes after finishing at TPC Boston on a score of 30-under par.
"I wish my golf memory was a little better, to be honest with you," said Scheffler.
"I remember the end of that round, the birdie putt I made on 18, but outside of that, I don't really remember a whole lot.
"I remember I got beat by a bunch of shots at the end of that tournament. I remember that part.
"I think Dustin, that day he was, like, 10-under or 11-under through 12 or something crazy like that.
"He ended up beating me by like ten shots through the week.
"That one didn't work out how I intended to, but it was a nice round."
Scheffler said it crossed his mind that it would be "cool" to shoot 59 but realised that Jim Furyk has the all-time record with a 58.
Furyk set the record in 2016. "So it's not even the course record," said Scheffler.
"You know, Jim kind of takes away a little bit of the special 59 when you are losing still."
The Travelers Championship is the final signature event of the 2025/2026 season.
It carries a total purse of $20m, with no cut for the 72-man field.
