Tommy Fleetwood has set up a golden opportunity to secure his first PGA Tour title at the Travelers Championship on his 159th start.

Fleetwood, 34, went round TPC River Highlands in a bogey-free 7-under 63 on Saturday to reach 16-under par.

The Englishman leads by three strokes over US Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley and prospective team member Russell Henley.

Jason Day, Wyndham Clark and World No.1 Scottie Scheffler are also inside the top 10 but will need mistakes from Fleetwood if they are to contend.

"I played really well," Fleetwood said. "I played very, very solid. I suppose I've used every aspect of the game.

"I felt like certain elements -- yesterday I had to scramble really well before things actually caught fire for me on the back nine.

"Today, hit the ball great off the tee. I didn't really know the numbers but I hit every fairway, so that's a really cool stat, that's a really nice stat.

"I just had very much control of my golf ball, bogey-free today, so the odd sort of iffy shot I hit I made good saves, which are massive for momentum especially when you're having a good day.

"It's hard to pick just one thing and it's funny how weeks can sort of sometimes come out of, not nowhere, I've been playing really well this year, obviously a disappointing week last week[at the US Open], and to do good work and to get back and feel like played well has been really nice."

Scheffler got off to the worst possible start with a triple bogey on the first hole and could ultimately manage a 2-over 72 as he fell down the leaderboard.

Masters champion Rory McIlroy added a third round of 68 and is among six players on 7-under par.

The Northern Irishman put together a clean front nine that contained four birdies.

He came unstuck on the 12th hole and etched an ugly double bogey six on his card after hitting his approach long before duffing his chip.

McIlroy closed with two pars after making a birdie at the 15th and dropping another stroke at the 16th.

Fleetwood, who has 27 top five finishes and 41 top 10 finishes on the PGA Tour, made the turn in 3-under and put another circle on his scorecard at the 10th by rolling in a putt from 18 feet.

He made eagle for the second day in a row at the par-5 15th by jarring another long-range putt from 30 feet.

The 2025 Travelers Championship represents Fleetwood's 159th start on the PGA Tour

He tops the list of players to have won the most amount of prize money ($29.3m) without a win.

"To always to be a number one at something is always nice," Fleetwood joked. "Yeah, of course I would love to win on the PGA Tour.

"I think it's like an element of your career that everybody wants, and I of course want it.

"I haven't, this year especially I don't feel like I've given myself -- I've given myself like a back end chance a couple of times this year, but I've not been in contention.

"So this is like my first real chance, so I'm really excited about that and looking forward to it.

"Again, it's easy to put pressure on yourself, and the longer things go on, the more people talk about it, of course they do.

"But there's also things that I'm very proud about as well, like my consistency, where I stand FedEx cups and world rankings and things like that.

"So there's a lot to be happy about, but, you know, of course, I'm not going to, you know, be silly and say I don't care about it, of course I want to win, and hopefully it will happen sooner rather than later."
