Cameron Young has no interest in talking about playing partner after falling short at US Open

Cameron Young was in no mood to talk about his playing partner Bob MacIntyre after coming up shy of a first major title at the US Open.

Cameron Young shut a reporter's question down about his playing partner Robert MacIntyre after he came up shy of a first major title at the US Open.

Young, 28, backdoored a top-five finish at the US Open on 3-over par.

That ended up being four shots behind eventual winner JJ Spaun, who impressively birdied the final two holes to see out his first major victory and second on the PGA Tour.

Young's tie for fourth marked his sixth top-10 finish in his last 14 major starts.

It also marked another close-call for not only a first major title but also a first win on the PGA Tour, which somehow still alludes him.

Young had every chance to win his first PGA Tour title the Sunday previous at the RBC Canadian Open only for him to bogey the par-5 18th to miss out on a playoff.

After his final round in Canada, he admitted to reporters that he would need at least 15 minutes to get over what had just happened.

Fast forward a week, and Young, who was GolfMagic's 100/1 each-way pick for the US Open, had similar feelings about the finish.

Although he never got within a shot of the lead during the final round, Young knew he played well enough again to win a first title.

He cut another frustrated figure as he stood in front of reporters at the back of the 18th.

Young kept things short and sweet when asked to talk about his performance.

But when he was pressed to talk about his playing partner for the day in Robert Macintyre, who at the time of his interview was leading the US Open in the clubhouse, it's fair to say Young had very little interest.

Scroll below to see how the exchange played out between Young and the reporter...

Reporter: "What did you see in Bob's round that was impressive?"

Young: "He came back really well. I don't know, he's a good golfer, and he got off to a bad start and finished really well."

Reporter: "Something in his game that you think is particularly impressive?"

Young: "I don't really feel like talking about it, to be honest."

Reporter: "He's probably going to win."

Young: "Yeah, I just lost by two, so more concerned about that than about who's going to win."

It marked the second awkward exchange between player and reporter in the space of 10 minutes on Sunday at the US Open.

As it ended up, MacIntyre didn't win a first major and Young ended up losing by four shots as Spaun birdied the final two holes.

Young can at least consolation from moving back inside the world's top 40 to 39th.

He also pushes himself up to 15th in the US Ryder Cup standings as he attempts to make the team for the first time in his career.

Young's sole United States team appearance came at the 2022 Presidents Cup.
