PGA Championship: Which big names joined Bryson DeChambeau in missing the cut?

Bryson DeChambeau was among a host of star names to exit the PGA Championship after 36 holes of the second men's major of the year at Aronimink.

The PGA Championship will continue at Aronimink Golf Club in Penssylvania without some star names.

After 36 holes at the second men's major of the year, America's Maverick McNealy and Alex Smalley are out in front.

The duo shone brightly on Friday, withstanding the difficult conditions and 'absurd' pin placements to reach for-under.

They are being chased by the likes of world number one Scottie Scheffler, Min Woo Lee, Chris Gotterup, Hideki Matsuyama, Cameron Young, Stephan Jaeger, Ludvig Aberg, Jon Rahm and Justin Thomas.

Masters champion Rory McIlroy rallied hard to make the cut.

Jordan Spieth has also kept alive his hopes of joining McIlroy in the grand slam club

At the other end of the leaderboard, some big names will be heading home early.

Bryson DeChambeau was the highest-profile player to miss the cut, with the LIV Golf recruit cutting an extremely agitated and dejected figure over the past 48 hours.

In the end, DeChambeau carded rounds of 76-71 to miss the cut by three strokes.

DeChambeau also hit the self destruct button at last month's Masters.

The 31-year-old signed a few autographs on Friday evening but decided against offering some thoughts to the media.

GolfMagic has decided to take a look at who joined DeChambeau in making an early exit from the PGA Championship.

Tyrrell Hatton +6

Before the PGA Championship began, Hatton admitted that his record in the majors was pretty bad.

Yet he was still considered as a genuine contender to lift the Wanamaker Trophy.

On Friday, he made the turn with a decent chance of making the cut.

But he made too many mistakes on the back nine, dropping shots at the 11th, 14th and 15th to tumble down the leaderboard.

Michael Block +5

The Block Party is over for another 12 months at least.

Still, he believes this his story at the PGA Championship is far from over

Akshay Bhatia +5

Plenty of tipsters fancied Bhatia's chances, given he does pretty much everything in the game well.

But it's an early exit for the lefty.

Robert MacIntyre +5

The Scot demonstrated in the majors and in the Ryder Cup last year that he could hang with the very best.

But the Oban man now has back-to-back missed cuts in the majors this season.

At least he made it through the week without hitting the headlines for the wrong reasons.

Will he bounce back at the U.S. Open?

Wyndham Clark +5

Clark shot level par in round two, but the damage was done in the opening round.

Tommy Fleetwood +5

A poor 2026 PGA Championship for the Englishman, who remains one of the very best players yet to win a major.

Surely he will contend at Shinnecock Hills and Royal Birkdale?

Shane Lowry +4

A forgettable PGA Championship for the 2019 Open champion, who hit one of the best tops we have ever seen in round two

Viktor Hovland +6

The Norwegian finished inside the top 20 at The Masters last month and spoke optimistically about his chances at the beginning of the week.

He battled hard to make the cut, but in the end he just made too many sloppy mistakes.

J.J. Spaun +6

Won in Texas a week prior to The Masters and came into the PGA Championship with good vibes after a top 10 finish at the Cadillac Championship.

But Spaun will depart early.

Sepp Straka +6

In truth the big Austrian has been on the decline for a while.

Keegan Bradley +6

Has good memories of Aronimink having won the BMW Championship here in 2018.

But the former U.S. Ryder Cup captain's return to Pennsylvania did not go to plan at all.

Adam Scott +8

The big Aussie missed the cut on his 100th consecutive start in a major championship.

Max Homa +12

A torrid week for Max Homa, who managed to get into the field as an alternate after Phil Mickelson's withdrawal.

Marco Penge +12

The Englishman's driving prowess has drawn admiration from the likes of Fleetwood and McIlroy.

The 27-year-old began the day with high hopes of making the cut, but went out in 43 strokes and couldn't recover.
