Michael Block after missing PGA Championship cut: “I will definitely qualify for one more, if not five more.”

Michael Block insists his PGA Championship story is far from over after the club professional missed the cut at Aronimink on Friday.

PGA club pro Block, 49, battled hard during his second round but a difficult closing stretch left him outside the projected cut line at five-over par for the championship.

Yet despite the disappointing finish, Block made one thing crystal clear — he fully expects to return to golf’s biggest stages again.

“I have to be honest with you, there's no way on God's green earth this is my last one, no chance,” Block said during an interview with SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio

“I will definitely qualify for one more, if not five more.”

Block’s confidence came shortly after a frustrating end to his week at Aronimink.

Three years on from his unforgettable tie for 15th where he made a hole-in-one alongside Rory McIlroy at the 2023 PGA Championship at Oak Hill, the Californian briefly moved under par when making birdie on the par-3 fifth in round two.

But his challenge quickly unravelled.

Block played his remaining holes in six-over par, with back-to-back bogeys at the 17th and 18th to end hopes of making the weekend.

His second-round 75 left him likely two shots short of the cut mark.

Despite his disappointing finish, Block’s trademark honesty and self-belief remained on full display at Aronimink.

During Thursday’s opening round, where he played alongside Dustin Johnson and Rasmus Hojgaard, Block revealed the unusual pep talk that helped settle his nerves mid-round.

“I was in the bathroom on hole 12 or 13 today,” Block said, “and there was no mirror, so I wasn’t looking at myself, but I said, ‘You got this.’ I go, ‘You’re actually pretty good, buddy.’ And I just kept going. I’m like, I’m with D.J., one of my idols, a guy I looked up to my whole life, and Rasmus, who’s an unbelievable player, he’s like 63 in the world. They both hit it 50 yards by me on every shot. I’m just going, ‘You got this, bud. You got it.’

“It’s really cool. It’s kind of fun. If I’m going to be honest.”

That underdog mentality is exactly why Block continues to resonate with golf fans around the world.

While the former PGA Championship Cinderella story could not recreate the magic of Oak Hill this week, his belief clearly has not faded.

And if Block is right, Aronimink will not be the final chapter of one of golf’s most unlikely major stories.
