Sacked golf caddie reveals despair at missing PGA Championship: "You get thrown in the gutter"
Matthew Fitzpatrick's former caddie Billy Foster revealed his heartbreak at not being involved at the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow.
Matthew Fitzpatrick's former caddie Billy Foster has revealed he's found it difficult waking up in the morning not knowing what to do.
Fitzpatrick's dismal start to the 2025 season saw the Englishman make the difficult decision to part ways with the looper in March.
The former U.S. Open champion missed the cut at The Players Championship and decided something needed to change.
Fitzpatrick has tumbled down the world rankings since he won the major at The Country Club at Brookline in 2022.
For his part, Foster expressed his gratitude for the Fitzy after a six-year association.
Foster told The Times of London: "I've not enjoyed getting up in the morning and thinking, 'What am I going to do today?'
"I've done this since I was 16 and like being on the road. To get up with no purpose is no good for me.
"I think a lot of people think I've retired, but I don't want it to dribble away. I'd like another two or three years."
Of his split with Fitzpatrick, Foster added: "It's like football management.
"If things aren't going well you think you need to shake things up.
"Fitz has not been playing his best stuff for 12 months so he tries to make it different.
"Part and parcel of the game. Players want to change and you get thrown in the gutter."
Fitzpatrick has not confirmed Foster's replacement yet.
Before the 2025 season got underway, Foster confirmed that he was going to share looping duties with Daniel Parratt.
It's likely Fitzpatrick will continue with Parratt.
Foster told the paper he's unlikely to watch too match of this week's PGA Championship at Quail Hollow Club.
He wants to be back in action soon, though.
"It's been my life and I've still got a couple of years to give," he added.
"I want to finish on my terms. I don't want to be painting the conservatory and cutting the lawn.
"I want to be out there with my mates and feel the atmosphere of big tournaments again."
Fitzpatrick is playing the first two rounds of the major alongside America's Patrick Cantlay and his European Ryder Cup teammate Jon Rahm.
The trio have been handed a 13:00 BST tee time on day one.
