Eddie Pepperell is set to return to action at the Ras al Khaimah Championship this week, but he is hardly full of enthusiasm or confidence.

Eddie Pepperell returns to DP World Tour, but he hoped this wouldn't…

Eddie Pepperell is an incredibly frank and open golfer. You get nothing but honesty from Pepperell and this is always evident on his social media platforms.

The Englishman is one of the most entertaining golfers on Twitter and he came out with some more gems off the back of the finale of the Slync.io Dubai Desert Classic.

Pepperell, 31, posted a video of himself practising out in Dubai ahead of the Ras al Khaimah Championship this week. He wanted to let his fans know that he hadn't hung up his golf shoes in recent weeks.

"To prove to you all that I’m not just an armchair epidemiologist, here’s some evidence of me practising out in Dubai," Pepperell tweeted.

"Don’t worry about the fact it’s a knockdown 8iron, take heart in the fact I am back next week playing golf. Something I was hopeful would never happen again."

The two-time DP World Tour winner jokingly said that he didn't want to play golf again. It is fair to say that 2021 was a rather forgettable year in his career so far.

After the heights of winning twice in 2018, Pepperell also finished second at the Portugal Masters and second at the Scottish Open.

But last year, he failed to finish in the top 10 in any event on the DP World Tour. It is this form that has led to the many self-deprecating but funny tweets.

After the dramatic end to the Slync.io Dubai Desert Classic which saw Viktor Hovland beat Richard Bland in a playoff, Pepperell also tweeted an attempt to comfort Rory McIlroy.

McIlroy was in the middle of the 18th fairway tied with Hovland and Bland on 12-under-par, but he found the water with his second shot on this par-5.

He bogeyed the hole and missed out on the playoff. Cue Pepperell who came to his emotional rescue on Twitter:

"If it’s any consolation @McIlroyRory, and of course I know it isn’t, but I once hit my fourth shot with a 3 wood into that lake."

We all hope that Pepperell can return to his best golf in 2022 and he could kick off his year with a win at Al Hamra Golf Club this week.
