Putters have a tough life. Lavished with praise when shooting our lowest rounds of the season, yet resented, smacked and quickly sent next to the dusty old Wilson tennis racket and cobwebbed fishing rod in the corner of the garage when the sole contributor of 24 Stableford points.

For most of us, the putter provides a love-hate relationship. One week we want to take it out for dinner and cuddle it in bed (okay, that's probably just me), the next we don't want to hear or see from it for at least six months.

While being comfortable with your putter grip is of paramount importance, and a sole reason for the ball finding the cup more often than not, picking out a premium flatstick that utilises all the latest putting technology to help improve roll, forgiveness and feel is key if you want to radically improve your putting stats and ultimately shoot lower scores.

TESTED: BEST MALLET PUTTERS 2019

With hundreds of putters to choose from in today's market, GolfMagic has compiled two different features on its six favourite blade putters and six favourite mallet putters including products from the likes of TaylorMade, Odyssey, PING, Scotty Cameron, Bettinardi and Evnroll.

In this particular article, we take a look at the BLADE PUTTERS that have impressed us most during testing this season, in no particular order...

#1 - TAYLORMADE TP BLACK COPPER JUNO

TaylorMade's TP Black Copper Juno incorporates a rich new colourway into a Tour-validated putter shape.

Juno is a blade-style putter with a pure roll and exceptional feel. Shaped with squared and compact contours, Juno’s appearance mirrors its precise mechanical construction.

A short, single sightline on top provides simple alignment, while two 10g weights in the sole aid in the putter’s overall stability.

Juno also features a slight toe hang and a full-shaft offset to fit the stroke of golfers who prefer to release the toe through impact.

Recently tried and tested by the likes of Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Jason Day and Dustin Johnson, the Pure Roll insert combines 45° grooves with a softer polymer to increase topspin and improve forward roll across varying surfaces – helping your ball start and stay on its intended line.

#2 - ODYSSEY STROKE LAB ONE

The Odyssey Stroke Lab One putter is a rounded heel-toe weighted blade that features the company's multi-material Stroke Lab shaft, crank-neck hosel and a White Hot Microhinge face insert.

The Stroke Lab shaft is a full 40 grams lighter, made possible by an innovative new multi-material shaft design that combines a graphite body with a steel tip to net out at just 75g, with most of the mass concentrated in the tip.

Odyssey has redistributed that saved weight by adding 10g to the head in the form of two sole weights, and adding 30g to the grip-end via a 10g-lighter grip and 40g end-weight.

The effect of Stroke Lab’s innovative weight distribution on the stroke is dramatic. Odyssey studies indicate improvements in the consistency of backswing time, face-angle at impact, ball speed, and ball direction.

Additional weight in the sole and butt-end of the grip change the putter’s dynamics to help golfers consistently repeat a smoother and more accurate stroke.

On top of all that, Odyssey's popular White Hot feel with dozens of microhinges embedded across the face helps promote topspin for smooth roll and acute distance control.

#3 - BETTINARDI STUDIO STOCK 2

The Bettinardi Studio Stock 2 putter has undergone aesthetic and performance enhancements to make it an even more impressive blade putter in 2019.

Milled from a solid block of 303 stainless steel, the hosel has been positioned slightly forward toward the toe, which gives the SS2 slightly less toe than Bettinardi's traditional blade style putters.

The raised shoulders and newly-rounded bumpers distribute great weight displacement for ideal perimeter weighting and a fresh appearance at address.

With feedback from major champions, Robert Bettinardi milled his F.I.T. Face 20% deeper for an even softer feel at impact.

A stunning hand-polished platinum finish gives the SS2 a durable and cleaner appearance, sure to inspire confidence on the greens.
