Under Armour Drive Pro Clone
Under Armour Drive Pro Clone

Under Armour Drive Pro Clone

RRP: £140

Key Features:

  • Waterproof Auxetic upper moulds to the foot and creates a custom locked-in feel
  • Spikeless outsole delivers lots of traction
  • Running-derived HOVR foam provides supportive comfort
  • Swing Support System combines dual-density foam, midfoot band and traction platform for excellent stability

Pros:

  • Upper is outstanding
  • Exceptionally stable and supportive
  • Spikeless version delivers plenty of grip
  • Looks vastly improved on the former model

Cons:

  • Very few to report

Replacing the much-loved but admittedly not very good looking Drive Pro, Under Armour's new Drive Pro Clone is the most innovative golf shoe released so far in 2026, and possibly the best.

Key to the new Drive Pro Clone is its Auxetic Upper, which consists of a waterproof microfibre that expands rather than constricting as it's stretched, creating an incredibly supportive, adaptive fit that hugs your foot seamlessly. It's also by far the best-looking flagship shoe Under Armour have ever released, with a sleek, sporty silhouette complemented wonderfully by its futuristic upper and minimal branding.

The Drive Pro Clone is as comfortable as it is supportive, with a foam bed under foot that's slightly on the firmer side without losing a dynamic feel with every step. The shoe's Swing Support System gives you the confidence to swing with a feeling of total confidence every time, while both the spiked and spikeless versions deliver outstanding traction in all conditions.

Under Armour have delivered a huge improvement on the Drive Pro with the Clone model for 2026, and in doing so have dramatically upped the ante for other shoe manufacturers going into the new season.

adidas Codechaos 25

adidas Codechaos

RRP: £120

Key Features:

  • Lightstrike + BOOST midsole: delivers a combination of comfort and stability
  • Twist Grip outsole: provides spikeless traction
  • Multi-layered waterproof knit upper: looks great and keeps your feet protected from the elements

Pros:

  • Excellent traction for a spikeless golf shoe
  • Mesh upper is one of the most unique designs of the year
  • Lightstrike midsole provides fantastic stability

Cons:

  • We experienced quite a bit of discomfort in the heel
  • Firmer underfoot than we were expecting

One of the most unique looking shoes of 2025, the adidas Codechaos 25s feature a translucent upper outer layer that gives you a peak into what can best be described as a topographical map of the shoes underneath. This fascinating design choice could be slightly Marmite for some golfers, but it certainly sets the shoes apart from the competition.

The spikeless outsole features a full coverage of deep nubs that deliver excellent traction, and thanks to the mixed Boost and Lightstrike midsole, the shoes find the right balance of stability and cushioning.

Fitting true to size, these shoes are one of more athletic spikeless options on this list, and although we did notice some discomfort in the heel, the overall experience during testing was a positive one.

So, if you're looking to to embrace a more unique style on the course this year the 25s would be an excellent place to start.

ECCO BIOM C5

RRP: £200

Key Features:

  • ECCO performance leather upper
  • Lightweight, breathable engineered mesh sock with waterproof GORE-TEX lining
  • ECCO FLUIDFORM™ Direct Comfort Technology midsole
  • ECCO E-TTS outsole delivers performance, stability, and multi-directional traction

Pros:

  • Exceptional stability and traction
  • Just the right amount of cushioning
  • Upper is waterproof and breathable

Cons:

  • Sizing is a problem
  • Step-in feel could be more plush
  • Looks might be a bit much for some
  • Expensive for a spikeless shoee

The BIOM C5 is ECCO's top-end spikeless golf shoe, having already debuted on the feet of ambassadors like Aaron Rai and Thorbjørn Olesen on tour this year. And following on from the successful H5, it has a lot to live up to.

The Biom C5 follows the upper formula of the H5 pretty closely, combining a Performance Leather layer over an interior mesh lining that's exposed on the tongue and around the ankle, making for an almost sock-like step in. They feel exceptionally well-made, and ECCO's reputation for durability precedes it.

The platform ECCO have engineered underfoot is also top-class. The midsole foam looks as if it would be quite soft and plush, however it's actually on the firmer side, with just the right amount of bounce to keep you feeling comfortable without ever losing its sense of control.

The feeling inside the shoe lets the BIOM C5 down somewhat, with very minimal padding around the heel or the top of the foot. As such, our main issue is whether the ECCOs really deliver the plush feel you'd expect for the price you're paying. These retail for £200, and a whopping £220 for the BOA-equipped version, which is expensive for a spikeless shoe given there are more luxurious feeling options out there for far less.

The ECCOs also run very long and have a very confusing sizing system compared to other brands. As such, I'd highly recommend trying these on in person before investing.

FootJoy Pro/SL

RRP: $160

Key Features:

  • Z-TEC Upper provides Targeted Flexibility and Stability
  • ARCTrax/SL outsole delivers aggressive traction for high-level players
  • StratoFOAM heel pad and lightweight EVA forefoot cushioning
  • Forefoot nylon spring plate maximises energy return
  • OrthoLite X25 FitBed

Pros:

  • Outstanding traction and stability
  • Plenty of room
  • Heel cushioning adds some welcome comfort

Cons:

  • Forefoot ride is very firm
  • Not the most exciting to look at

FootJoy's Pro/SL has had a refresh for 2026, with a brand new traction pattern, the most modern and sporty look yet seen in a FootJoy golf shoe, and a revamped upper. Sahith Theegala, a longtime Pro/SL devotee, played a sizeable role in the development of the shoe, testing out prototypes over a period of two years to help FootJoy dial in the blend of stability and traction that a high-end tour pro truly needs. This is the result.

The overall profile of the shoe has been lowered and widened somewhat, giving it something of a gym shoe-like look, with a wide base and a roomy toe box and a slightly narrowed heel section that allows for a wider toe spread while locking you in and keeping you feeling firmly planted on the ground.

FootJoy offer both medium width and wide options in the Pro/SL, and this is truly one of the best-fitting options out there if you have a low arch or a wide foot.

The fit and upper of the new Pro/SL are excellent, while the traction and stability provided by the updated outsole and nylon plate is among the best we've tested in a spikeless golf shoe to date. If you value a firmer ride in your golf shoes, as many FootJoy players tend to, you'll like the feel of the new Pro/SL, with the added heel crash pad providing some welcome cushioning.

For those who want a more trainer-like feel to go with the look, there are options out there that deliver comparable stability and a more responsive feel underfoot – often for less money. The Pro/SL will set you back a not inconsiderable £160, which is a lot when there are shoes out there that we think are both more comfortable and better looking.

G/FORE MG4+ O2
G/FORE MG4+ O2

G/FORE MG4+ O2

RRP: £185

Key Features:

  • Waterproof TPU upper
  • Spikeless sawtooth traction pattern
  • Removable and washable massaging insoles
  • Locked in stability with external heel counter
  • Responsive auxetic lattice midsole and sidewall
  • Odour-inhibiting triple density foam cushion footbed

Pros:

  • Seriously impressive traction
  • Exceptionally comfortable
  • Premium feel
  • Easy to take care of

Cons:

  • Not for wide feet

One of the most comfortable and stylish golf shoes on the market right now, G/FORE's MG4+ O2 is an absolute winner.

The MG4+ O2 is perhaps G/FORE"s most well-rounded shoe, with its clean, athletic silhouette, unbelievable comfort (including that much-loved massaging inner sole) and practical waterproof upper. The feel provided under foot by the auxetic midsole is bouncy and responsive without being too soft, while the grip in the spikeless version, with its aggressive sawtooth outsole pattern, is outstanding and makes for much easier wearing off the course.

There are a couple of niggling issues with the MG4 pertaining to fit, mostly revolving around their fairly narrow shape and unsuitability for wider-footed golfers. However if you have a regular or narrow arch, we highly recommend you give these a go, and have no hesitation in naming them among the most comfortable spiked golf shoes on the market.

Sun Day Red Presidio

RRP: £175

Key Features:

  • Reinforced mesh upper is lightweight, breathable and waterproof
  • Full-length outsole keeps you fully connected to the ground
  • Proprietary EVA foam midsole delivers a smooth, comfortable ride
  • TPU outsole plate increases torsional rigidity

Pros:

  • Incredibly stable and supportive
  • Some of the best spikeless traction around
  • Looks good for a sportier golf shoe

Cons:

  • I wish the ride had a touch more softness
  • Pretty expensive

Sun Day Red's Presidio, is the first high-performance spikeless golf shoe from the brand, filling the gap between the traditionally-styled Cypress range and the Osprey golf sneaker and promising some of the best grip and stability to be found in a spikeless shoe.

Being a more tech-focused shoe, the Presidio delivers the biggest list of features Sun Day Red has ever put into a spikeless shoe. The Presidio's outsole is aggressive by the standards of a spikeless shoe, running flat the entire length of the shoe in the manner of a weightlifting shoe for enhanced power transfer through the ground and multi-directional lug placements for superior traction.

On top of this sits a bed of Sun Day Red's proprietary EVA-based foam, which is braced by a lateral TPU shank that provides added torsional stability around the midfoot.

Where the Sun Day Red really shines is in its stability. The underfoot foam, while a touch firmer than others, works beautifully with the full-length outsole and TPU shank to keep you feeling locked in all the way through the swing.

This, combined with the fact that they provide one of the most stable platforms we've ever tested on a spikeless shoe, makes them a must-try if you're after a more premium shoe with sporty DNA for 2026.

How do spikeless golf shoes compare to spiked shoes in terms of overall performance?

The gap in traction and performance between spikeless and spiked golf shoes has narrowed in recent years, with many tour level players now opting to wear spikeless golf shoes and trusting that they'll attain similar levels of grip to their spiked counterparts. Conversely, spiked shoes have become more comfortable and less harsh on both your feet and the course in recent years, making choosing between the two all the trickier.

Spikeless shoes offer a number of advantages over spiked models for daily wear or use as a casual player. They're generally more comfortable and provide a more grounded feel underfoot, while the lack of spikes also makes them more suitable for wearing in the clubhouse and off the course. Spikeless shoes are also easier on the courses you play, as they don't dig in to the greens as harshly.

Finally, spikeless shoes can sometimes actually be better for you to wear. If you're a particularly aggressive swinger who puts a lot of rotational force through your back and knees, spikeless shoes will provide the give underfoot that prevents you from twisting too violently into your joints.

On the flipside, while spikeless golf shoes have become more and more aggressive in the pursuit of traction, they still have a natural ceiling in wetter weather that spiked shoes don't, meaning we'd recommend opting for the latter if you regularly play in muddy or wet conditions.

What technology should I look for to ensure maximum comfort in spikeless golf shoes?

As with any pair of golf shoes, the comfort level you'll attain in a pair largely comes down to a combination of the upper, midsole and inner sole (sometimes known as a sockliner). Many high-end shoes have a sock-like membrane that feels as if it's hugging your foot, providing a softer, more custom-moulded feel when you step into them.

The under foot cushioning different golf shoes provide can vary greatly, with some offering a firmer, lower-profile feel (which can often aid in reading greens) and others using lots of foam to provide a softer, bouncier experience at the expense of feedback. This also to the brand's choice of inner sole, with many brands using sockliners from companies like OrthoLite which provide support and added cushioning. Some, like G/FORE, even feature massaging inner soles in their shoes.

How do I maintain my spikeless golf shoes for longevity?

You can buy the best golf shoe for your game, but if you neglect them and don’t maintain their qualities over time, their effect could be diminished and you may not get the best out of them.

If you have a pair of spiked golf shoes, make sure you keep an eye on the spikes. If they become too worn, you should replace them which can be done easily with a tool. If you leave your spikes to become small stumps, they can be very hard to replace, which is why spike maintenance is very important.

If you have just played in the rain and your shoes are soaked on the inside, make sure you dry them out when you return home. Maybe warm them up or fill them with paper in order to take the moisture out, but don’t leave this task until your next round because you don’t want wet feet as soon as you step on to the golf course.

If you are concerned about buying shoes that don’t become a good fit on the golf course, you can use a custom-fitting session to make sure you have the right pair for you. It may cost you a little more cash, but the fitters will make sure your feet are a perfect fit in every inch of the shoe.

How do we test golf shoes?

GolfMagic's Equipment and Reviews Editors rigorously test the best golf shoes by wearing them over a number of weeks and months to assess their performance.

Over time, Alex assesses the shoe’s durability, comfort and stability on the golf course. He also judges the aesthetics and design of each model to decide which golfers are suited to a certain type of golf shoe.

Does the colour wear away after some time? Does the lacing in this shoe allow for maximum comfort? Is the underfoot spiking delivering stability?

Alex tests all golf shoes in a number of different weather conditions to get a well-rounded view of how they perform when challenged by dry and wet conditions.
