Caley Golf Iron Set Review | Is this the best value iron of 2022?

Need To Know

- The Caley Golf irons are incredibly cheap and they offer great value for beginners.
- More expensive irons from top brands offer far superior performance features and forgiveness.
Our score:
PRICE: £300.00 YEAR: from 2022

Caley Golf irons are a direct-to-consumer product which offers a cheaper and affordable option to serve your game, as opposed to what the big brands offer each year.

GolfMagic Equipment Editor Alex Lodge took the irons to the Waterfall course at Mannings Heath Golf and Wine Estate to assess their performance.

As you will find out in our review below, we discovered that although the Caley irons are very cheap, they still provide similar performance traits to the very best products in the game.

Watch our review below and leave your comments on YouTube. Ask us any questions and we will answer them, as well as any comparison requests you may have.

What are the Caley Golf irons all about?

Alex used a black limited edition set of Caley Golf clubs from 5-iron to pitching wedge. In terms of how each iron is constructed, the technology used is fairly minimal.

We doubt the durability of this iron set. Having used them over a number of rounds, the clubface becomes scuffed and beaten up by your ball. This could explain why the price tag of £300 is so lenient.

We fear the Caley Golf irons are flimsy and after playing a couple of times each week, it is clear to see that more expensive clubs have much more durable clubfaces.

We found the irons to deliver impressive distances and this is because they have strong lofts. The 5-iron is 22 degrees, the 7-iron is 28 degrees and the pitching wedge is 45 degrees.

There is a nice-progressive blade length to each iron. They deliver good distance and while they can be used as a game-improvement set, they can also be used as a player's distance iron.

Which golfers do the Caley Golf irons best suit?

Caley Golf irons suit beginners. As they are not constructed with strong materials or packed with technological features, they suit golfers with slow swing speeds.

Players with faster swing speeds would suit a higher-end set of irons from the likes of TaylorMade and Callaway. They have features which perfectly serve the game of low handicap golfers.

As they are so cheap, they offer extreme value as a direct-to-consumer iron set. They are the perfect price to get you started in golf.

Performance and forgiveness

Despite using graphite shafts and short grips, we discovered that the Caley Golf irons produced a low launch. We liken them to the TaylorMade P770 and P790 irons in terms of what they look like at address.

We doubt the forgiveness of this iron set and this is what is guaranteed with a more expensive iron set. They still suit beginners because they deliver distance, but there are more forgiving clubs at the top of the market.

Although the performance of these irons will never match the performance of irons such as the TaylorMade P790s or the Callaway Rogue ST Max set, they serve a purpose by delivering solid ball flights and ball-striking.

Looks and feel

The Caley Golf irons have a very simplistic design. There are very few cuts and edges in the head. The surface of the clubheads is very smooth with little to no pattern.

This is especially evident with the limited edition black set. At address, the Caley Golf irons instil confidence and they have a nice and encouraging feel.

The Caley Golf irons are not one of the best iron sets for 2022. As a direct-to-consumer iron, they offer an affordable option for golfers who are just beginning in the game.

This set helps golfers spend less money on a set of irons which will still serve their game well. They produce solid ball flights and distances due to their strong lofts.

As we discovered on the golf course, the irons aren't as forgiving as the top-end clubs which are more expensive. The expensive irons are packed with technology and innovation which makes them perfect for almost any golfer.

If you are looking for an iron set which isn't too expensive and can still deliver you good scores, we suggest you invest in Caley Golf irons. However, there are certainly better irons from the likes of TaylorMade, PING and Callaway which will enhance your game further.
