Brooks Koepka could be set for another significant equipment change ahead of this week’s PGA Championship at Aronimink as he searches for answers on the greens.

The five-time major champion has been spotted testing several different putters during practice ahead of the year’s second major, where he will bid for a fourth Wanamaker Trophy following wins in 2018, 2019 and 2023.

Koepka returned to the PGA Tour earlier this season after leaving LIV Golf at the end of 2025 through the circuit’s new Returning Membership Program.

While the move required a reported $5 million charitable donation and left him ineligible for Signature Events to begin with, the American has otherwise resumed full Tour membership.

Results have been mixed since his return.

Koepka has recorded five top-20 finishes in nine starts, but has also missed three cuts.

Despite that inconsistency, the 36-year-old believes his game is trending in the right direction after a tied-11th finish at last week’s Myrtle Beach Classic.

“That’s the most excited I’ve been playing golf in a long, long time,” Koepka said after a third-round 64, the lowest round of his season.

“It’s been a long time since I’ve had fun playing golf. I was very frustrated last year and just wasn’t in a good place. I’ve refound my happiness and my love for the game.”

Statistically, much of Koepka’s game is already back near elite level.

He currently ranks eighth on the PGA Tour in strokes gained tee-to-green and first in strokes gained approach.

The glaring weakness, however, remains his putting.

Koepka ranked 62nd in strokes gained putting at Myrtle Beach, losing more than two shots to the field, and currently sits 149th on the PGA Tour in the category at -0.525.

“I feel like I’ve been hitting the ball great for a long time,” Koepka admitted. “I just haven’t holed any putts.”

The former world number one recently moved away from his long-time Scotty Cameron Newport blade in favour of a TaylorMade Spider Tour X L-Neck, but further experimentation is underway at Aronimink.

According to Golf Digest equipment expert Jonathan Wall, the nine-time PGA Tour winner was seen rolling in putts with a TaylorMade Spider Tour V with a plumber’s neck during Monday’s practice session.

GolfWRX’s Alistair Cameron also reported that Koepka was dabbling with what appeared like a Scotty Cameron Phantom 9.5R Tour Prototype — a model associated with Cameron Young, who has won twice this season and risen to world number three.

As of May 2026, more than 85% of the world’s top 50 now favour mallet putters — up significantly from 62% in 2022.

Whether Koepka, who currently ranks 125th in the world ranking, sticks with his current setup or opts for another switch before Thursday’s opening round remains unclear, but the urgency is obvious.

The rest of his bag appears settled following his recent split from Srixon-Cleveland.

Koepka has continued to impress with a Titleist GT3 driver, Srixon ZX7 irons and Cleveland RTZ wedges as his ball-striking returns to the level that made him one of golf’s most dominant major performers.

He's also thankful to see a few more equipment trucks on the PGA Tour, not something he saw a great deal of on LIV Golf.

Now, with confidence returning and his long game in excellent shape, Koepka’s hopes of contending at Aronimink may ultimately come down to one question:

Can he finally find the right putter?
