Brooks Koepka and Srixon "mutually agree" to end partnership
The five-time major winner's journey with the Japanese brand has come to an end.
One of golf's most prolific equipment free agents is once again back on the market, following an announcement this afternoon that Brooks Koepka and Cleveland Srixon Golf have "mutually agreed" to terminate his endorsement deal .
Koepka signed an equipment deal with the Japanese brand back in 2021, bringing to an end a period of equipment free agency that saw him win four major titles in that run.
While Koepka was a high-profile signing for the brand, the two parties never quite gelled to the point where the American was comfortable playing a full suite of the brand's clubs for a protracted period of time.
He played Srixon irons and Cleveland wedges during his time as a contracted staffer, and won his fifth major championship with a Srixon ball, driver, irons and Cleveland wedges.
In more recent years, however, he opted to use a TaylorMade putter and fairway woods, a Titleist driver and his trusted Nike driving iron throughout the rest of his bag.
The greatest clue that something was amiss in the partnership, however, surfaced in February as Koepka quietly switched away from the Srixon Z-Star golf ball he was contracted to use, opting instead for an unbranded Titleist Pro V1x.
"Over the course of their relationship, Brooks served as an exceptional ambassador for the Srixon and Cleveland Golf brands," said a statement from Dunlop Sports Americas, the parent company of CSG and XXIO.
"His commitment to competing at the highest level of the game, including a major championship victory with Srixon and Cleveland Golf equipment in play, exemplified the performance standard both brands stand for."
Koepka now joins a growing list of equipment free agents who, having made their money through prize winnings, are now opting to forge their own path from an equipment standpoint in a search for continued performance. This includes Patrick Cantlay, Matt Fitzpatrick, Jason Day and Bryson DeChambeau.
We're yet to see exactly what changes Koepka has planned for his bag as a result, but we'll likely learn more in the coming weeks.
