Callaway's Quantum 'Mini Spinner' could be the ultimate wood for slower swingers
Debuted in Japan earlier this year, the new 'Scoring Wood' is aimed at giving everyday players the launch, control and stopping power they need to attack greens from distance.
Much has been made of the trend towards higher-lofted fairway woods in recent years. Tour players have taken to them en masse, but their usefulness to everyday players hasn't gone unnoticed either.
7 and even 9-woods have become increasingly popular among players as a hybrid or long-iron alternative in recent years, offering better stopping power and forgiveness compared to their smaller counterparts. But no brand, until now at least, has actually developed a dedicated wood for this space.
That changes today with the introduction of Callaway's Quantum Mini Spinner, a purpose-made high-loft wood aimed at encouraging easy launch speed and stopping power for players who prefer to play metalwoods at the top of the bag.
The Quantum Mini Spinner is billed as a 'Scoring Wood', and engineered as a solution for players who want long-iron distance with an added hit of stopping power and spin.
In particular, it's aimed those with slower swing speeds who need the help of a hybrid but struggle to stop them when attacking the pins. The components it's offered with are aimed exclusively at this vein of player, with lightweight regular flex shafts offered as standard.
It features much of the same technology as the wider Quantum metalwood range, including a Step Sole design that minimises turf interaction to promote cleaner strikes and more consistent centre-face contact.
The Quantum Mini Spinner also has a deeper face profile, with an AI-optimised high-spin face design, a lightweight carbon sole for optimal CG placement towards the top of the club head, and a taller face to expand the contact area and promote cleaner strikes.
It'll also come as stock with a shaft 0.75" shorter than a standard fairway wood, promoting more consistent impact and improved control through the hitting zone.
It was quietly launched in Japan earlier this year, and has already become the best-selling fairway wood in the local market since its debut.
Now, you can grab one for yourself when it hits the market in both 7 and 9-wood lofts for both men and women on August 14. It'll cost £359.
