Just yesterday, we brought you a round-up of the oldest pieces of equipment still being used on the PGA Tour. Robert MacIntyre's trusty TaylorMade Aeroburner 3-wood, a club as beloved for its everyman quality as it was its age, was among them.

MacIntyre had, until this week, been using the AeroBurner since its release way back in 2015. However this decade-long partnership has finally come to an end.

Despite making the FedEx Cup playoffs, MacIntyre's struggles on the course this year have been well documented, the Scot making headlines more often for on-course blow-ups than challenging for major titles.

Things came to a head at the weekend's FedEx St. Jude Championship, as he withdrew citing a knee injury after carding a career-worst 12-over 82.

While MacIntyre is safely through to the BMW Championship, he'll need to gin up a turnaround in form if he is to advance to the season finale. And he's turned to a new club in the search for some extra sauce, ditching his Aeroburner for a new Titleist GTS Prototype fairway wood.

Titleist's GTS 'Proto' has been one of the hottest new releases in recent months, having found its way into the bag of Cameron Young, Jackson Koivun and Michael Brennan since it was seeded on tour.

Titleist haven't revealed anything about the performance characteristics of the Prototype compared to that of the GTS2 and GTS3 fairway woods available at retail, however it seems to have a more simple forward-oriented weight to aid with launch and ball-speed.

Golf Digest gear reporter Jonathan Wall has also speculated that it could be a prototype of a GTS 'Plus' model of fairway wood that's supposedly forthcoming.
