Tiger Woods' Sun Day Red brand just dropped its first golf sneaker

Sneaker-inspired golf shoes are now as ubiquitous in the game as hoodies and jogger-style trousers. 

The casual-ification of the golfing dress code is fully complete, and despite a resurgence in traditional golf fashion, it certainly feels as we're past the point of no return as casual golf shoes from the likes of Nike, Adidas and PUMA become more and more common on casual courses and at PGA Tour events worldwide.

It's for this reason, then, that Sun Day Red, a brand founded by none other than Tiger Woods himself, has seen fit to release its own take on the increasingly popular style. Just the second shoe ever released by the brand, following up the more traditionally-styled Pioneer, the new sneaker, dubbed the Osprey, takes an entirely more casual approach to both on and off-course style.

The Osprey is a poignant signpost to the changing tides in golf style given that Tiger, a longtime Nike endorsee, overwhelmingly favoured the brand's more traditional shoes himself during his heyday.

"It’s really become my everyday shoe," Tiger himself said of the Osprey in a statement. "It’s comfortable but still looks polished, and I love that I can wear it straight from the golf course to a meeting or a dinner."

Of course, there are a few key points of difference that separate Sun Day Red's new shoe from that we now see commonly released by the larger sportswear giants. The main one, in keeping with Sun Day Red's wider approach to golf, is the shoe's focus on fusing the latest technology with materials and build quality that push the shoe firmly into the luxury category.

Made in a silhouette reminiscent of a luxury tennis sneaker, the upper of the shoe is constructed from a premium leather material, and comes available in a choice of all-white, grey and black colourways. 

Inside the shoe, however, is a host of tech designed to enhance comfort dramatically off the course and improve performance on it. A sock-like inner bootie provides a snug, soft sensation on the foot and also enhances lockdown. A drop-in stack of moulded EVA and engineered foam has also been added into the midsole, providing supple, responsive cushioning from the first hole to the 18th.

The minimalist outsole has also been engineered to provide omni-directional traction, with subtle rubber lugs that don't stick out from underneath the shoe, preserving its clean off course look and making it a surefire winner in the clubhouse.
