When Jim "Bones" Mackay announced he was going back to carrying the golf world appeared to be very disappointed.

His insights from inside the ropes gave fans an interesting insight into the world of golf and how players assess shots and situations.

Since he returned to work as a full-time carrier with Justin Thomas, Colt Knost has stepped up to the plate to provide on-course coverage.

Knost, 36, retired from professional golf two years ago and has proven himself to be a worthy addition to telecasts.

He has been described as having a sharp, analytical mind as well as providing some hilarious moments.

Indeed, he even has the approval of Justin Thomas, who said:

"He knows the players, knows our games, great sense of humor, and is a great player in his own right to relate the on course situations to the viewers."

Knost is also the co-host of the podcast SubPar. On Tuesday, he took to social media to share news of his promotion.

"I cannot wait to be walking the fairway with the best players in the world and interacting with you incredible fans. Happy holidays and I'll see everyone at Torrey Pines," said Knost.

Knost announced his retirement from golf after missing the cut at the 2020 Waste Management Phoenix Open.

He won twice on the Korn Ferry Tour in his professional career. He won the US Amateur in 2007.
