Real Madrid footballer Gareth Bale has announced plans to open a golf-themed bar in Cardiff city centre next year.

An official opening date has not yet been made but it will be at some point during the Spring of 2022.

Bale's bar will take over at the huge 23,000 sq ft site of the former Liquid nightclub on St Mary Street.

"I’m delighted to be working with a group of independent Welsh businesses to finally bring Par 59 to Cardiff," said Bale, who is a single-figure handicapper.

"For me, it’s all about creating safe, fun environments where people can enjoy something a bit different, play golf, and meet with friends."

Bale's bar has faced a number of delays as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

But now it has been given a green light to open following an ease in restrictions across the UK.

The venue will comprise of three 9-hole mini golf courses that are being built by local company Wild Creations.

There will also be a billiards room on the second floor.

Bale also opened Elevens Bar & Grill in Cardiff four years ago.

Par 59 is the result of a partnership between Bale's company Elevens Group Ltd and The DEPOT, one of Wales' most successful independent entertainement brands.

The Welsh winger has made it no secret about his passion for golf, posting regularly while out on the course on his Instagram page.

He has even built a number of iconic golf holes in his back yard.

Bale has been rumoured to be a main target of Newcastle United folllowing their recent Saudi takeover.
