Three UK golf clubs CLOSE DOWN due to COVID-19 cases

Just 24 hours after learning a Scottish golf club has been forced to close down for a period of up to 72 hours due to a member failing to self-isolate under quarantine rules, two more golf clubs in the UK have been forced to follow suit.

Silverknowes GC in Edinburgh is currently closed for a COVID-19 deep clean after one of its golfers entered the clubhouse last week just days after returning from a trip to Spain.

Under current Scottish government guidelines, you must self-isolate for a period of two weeks when returning from such country.

News has now emerged today that Westerhope Golf Club in Newcastle has been forced to shut down for a brief period of time after one of its members tested positive for COVID-19.

The golfer in question is believed to have picked up the virus while in a pub last week, shortly before then visiting the golf club.

"We were advised by a member this afternoon that he had tested positive for COVID-19, he did not contract the virus from the golf club," read an email from the golf club.

"It is believed he may have contracted it from a public house visited last weekend.

"The member played Wednesday 19th August, and visited the club between 14.00 and 14.40. His playing partners have been informed and advised that they should not visit the club until they test negative.

"The bar was immediately closed and a full deep clean of our bar, toilets, landing areas entrance and exits and locker rooms undertaken."

A similar story also unfolded at Farrington Park Golf Club in Bristol over the weekend after a member tested positive for coronavirus.

Only the clubhouse was closed for a deep clean but the course,  gym and pro shop remained open.

The clubhouse is expected to reopen today.

"Due to a member testing positive for COVID-19 we have made the decision after consultation to close the clubhouse until Monday, August 24," read a statement from the club.

"Their last visit was Tuesday, August 18, in the evening. Due to the nature of the business, all staff will be tested.

"Cleaners will be in to deep clean the facility before safely re-opening again. The golf course, gym, and pro shop will remain open. The pro shop will operate until 5pm on both days. Thank you for your understanding at this extremely difficult time."
