Brooks Koepka and Phil Mickelson certainly haven't forgotten their sense of humour since joining the LIV Golf Tour and this was clear at the team selection session in Miami.

When the team captains sat down to discover who they will play in their singles match play showdowns, Mickelson took them back to the USPGA Championship in 2021 when Lefty beat his younger opponent by two shots at Kiawah Island.

"If you want a rematch of the '21 PGA you could pick our team," Mickelson said. Koepka chose Smash GC to play Niblicks GC led by Bubba Watson.

"You've never been No.1 in the world," Koepka came back with. Despite winning 45 times on the PGA Tour including six major wins, Mickelson only ever reached the high of World No.2.

"That's a beautiful green shirt do you have a green jacket?" Mickelson fired back. Koepka has won the US Open and the USPGA twice each, but he has never conquered Augusta National.

Koepka also mentioned that Mickelson has never won the US Open despite coming second on six different occasions. It was certainly a firey start to the Team Championship which begins in Florida this week.

The captain's matches in the quarter-finals on Friday were decided earlier. Mickelson was drawn to play Cameron Smith, Koepka will face Harold Varner III, Joaquin Niemann will face Martin Kaymer and Ian Poulter will play Kevin Na.

Friday's action involves the teams seeded from 5 to 12 in the team standings. After Smash GC chose to play Niblicks GC, Majesticks GC chose to play Iron Heads GC, Hy Flyers GC chose to play Punch GC and Torque GC will play Cleeks GC.

For each match, three matches will happen: two singles matches and a foursomes match. The team who reaches two points will advance to the semi-finals on Saturday.

The Team Championship is worth a staggering $50 million with $16 million going to the winning side. Even the bottom team will bank $1 million between them.

We are almost at the end of the road when it comes to the LIV Golf Tour in 2022 as they prepare to hold their 14-event schedule in 2023.
