LIV attorney hails MAJOR legal victory: "The whole truth will now be exposed"
An attorney representing Patrick Reed has hailed a legal victory for supporters of LIV Golf after the PGA Tour failed to get a lawsuit dismissed.
Patrick Reed's attorney has hailed a major victory for LIV Golf supporters after the PGA Tour failed to get a second antitrust lawsuit dismissed.
The lawsuit was brought by Larry Klayman against the PGA Tour and DP World Tour on 11 November.
Klayman sought to depose the likes to PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan, Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy.
The attorney also accused DP World Tour chief executive Keith Pelley and Monahan of breaking competition laws by conspiring to restrain trade.
They were accused of attempting to kill off LIV Golf in its infancy. This lawsuit was lodged in Palm Beach County, Florida.
This news comes after Reed had his $750m defamation complaint dismissed by a judge last month.
Klayman said they will amend the complaint.
A second $250m complaint lodged by Reed is still ongoing against separate members of the golf media.
In a statement, Klayman said of their latest legal victory:
It's hard to keep up as there are several legal battles ongoing in the professional golf world at present.
LIV Golf players filed an antitrust lawsuit against the PGA Tour in August.
As many as 11 were involved in the initial action - involving the likes of Bryson DeChambeau and Phil Mickelson.
Mickelson and eight other players dropped. LIV Golf have added themselves as a plaintiff.
DeChambeau hasn't withdrawn his name from the complaint as he has accused the PGA Tour of withholding money from the Player Impact Program.
A tentative date for summary judgment in the antitrust case is set for July 23, 2023, where the tour will likely seek to dismiss the case.
The trial date expected on 8 January 2024.
The PGA Tour are also countersuing LIV, accusing the breakaway tour commissioned by Greg Norman of interfering in players' contracts.
Legendary golfer Jack Nicklaus is also involved in a legal battle. He is being sued by the Nicklaus Companies.
Nicklaus has now been deposed in relation to the complaint. He has accused his former business partner of acting as he if "owned" him.
