Nelly Korda had a solid week in Texas for the 2023 Chevron Championship, even clinching the World No. 1 spot. However, the young LPGA Tour star is still yet to find a second major championship.

After missing the 2022 Chevron Championship due to rehabbing after surgery, Korda was back for the 2023 tournament this past week with a solid season already underway.

In just five events prior to this week in Texas, Korda had already registered four top-10 finishes, including runner-up at the HSBC Women's World Championship.

Here's why Nelly Korda is 'a little sad' despite returning to World No.1

She entered Sunday's final round of the Chevron Championship at 8-under par, two strokes back of the leaders in a tie for sixth.

But she couldn't quite get things going around the greens at The Club at Carlton Woods in the final round, coming up 1-stroke short at 9-under par and had to settle for a third-place finish.

Her round was highlighted by a clutch eagle putt on the 18th to move into solo third.

Fellow Americans Lilia Vu and Angel Yin went to a playoff after both finished at 10-under, with the former earning her first career major championship at 25.

Korda's top-five finish was enough to earn her the World No. 1 spot from Lydia Ko, but it means the search for her second major championship will continue.

Asked to reflect on her week, Korda said she was 'a little sad' she didn't have her best stuff during the final round.

She added:

"My putter kind of let me down this week a little. Even though I made some really good putts, I also missed some putts that I usually don't.
"Overall I have a lot to work on, but for it to be the first major of the year, I think I played pretty well, and hopefully I can build on it. This is my first week out of four, so hopefully I can continue building."

She has come up painstakingly close at many since winning her first back at the KPMG PGA Women's Championship back in 2021. But it appears she will have to wait a few more months for another chance to claim her second.

The next LPGA Tour major championship will the 2023 KPMG PGA Women's Championship in New Jersey from June 22-25.
