The resurgent Cobra brand is launching a new set of forged irons, aimed at the better player.

The cavity blade King Cobra SS Forged irons are the latest part of the revitalised programme of launches which have seen sales of King Cobra products up by 40 per-cent in the last 12 months.

It started with the appearance of the King Cobra SS370 Unlimited titanium driver, to which thousands of amateurs have turned in search of forgiveness –and extra yards. Indeed two of my 5-handicap mates have switched to the club and discovered it immediately delivered 25 yards and more accuracy.

Now Cobra hopes to convert thousands more with this sleek, oversize cavity-back club for the accomplished player who regularly shoots in the low 80s and better.

The clubs, with a ‘muscle arch’ behind the clubface, for ‘superior accuracy’ combined with a ‘forged feel’, will sell at £675 for eight irons (3-PW) and have a True Temper Dynamic Gold steel shaft. The makers also claim the ‘skid sole’ cuts down thinned shots.

Cobra’s European marketing director John Peal commented: "King Cobra products are primarily targeted at the game improvement market. However we’ve found the performance of the King Cobra SS 370 driver has attracted a significant following from single figure handicap players and PGA pros. Launching a forged iron seemed a natural progression to allow these loyal Cobra players to add a set of irons to the bag."
