German recovers in style with Mizuno irons

How 'wild' Marcel reveals uncanny accuracy

It says a lot about Marcel Siem that he's usuyally among the longest but wildest on Tour in terms of driving accuracy - 297 yards average but 191st in finding the fairway - yet when it comes to hitting those greens in regulation, his powers of recovery are to be admired.

And it was just such a week for the German with the cropped ponytail at the Alstom French Open, when he used his set of Mizuno MP-69 bladed irons to secure the historic trophy and claim his place in next week's Open Championship at Royal Lytham.

For the week Marcel was fifth in greens in regulation (73.6%) and 11th in putts per pound (28.8 average) often revealing an uncanny ability to recover from adversity.

Also using Mizuno White Satin MP T-11 wedges Siem took a two-shot lead into the closing stretch at Paris National but kept a cool head to shake of Francisco Molinari with a final round of 67.

Tour Operations Manager for Mizuno, Andy Kikidas obseerved: “Marcel left Mizuno in 2008, so we're delighted that his return paid off so quickly.  He's a different player now – a much better ball striker, and although Marcel will always wear his heart on his sleeve, he’s more aware of his emotions out on the course.  I think that's one of things that endears him to the public.

“Marcel was one of the few players with Mizuno to play a midsize cavity MX-20 iron when he was with us the first time around.  The fact he's playing more consistently now – with a very traditional blade, says a lot about his ball striking confidence.”

He added that Siem's clubs are well suited to Open Championship conditions.

“The tight links at Lytham won’t suit everyone’s normal equipment set up- and if he wins – the celebrations will be entertaining.”
