Zander Lombard leads by two in Sun City

Playing in the Nedbank Golf Challenge for the very first time, South African local Zander Lombard has taken a two-shot lead after the second round of the tournament at the Gary Player Country Club.

It was Louis Oosthuizen who led after day one, but his South African compatriot Lombard took Friday's round by storm, with just one bogey, six birdies and an eagle, to shoot a seven-under par round of 65.

Starting the week ranked 234th in the world, Lombard goes into the weekend 11-under par and with a two-shot lead over Oosthuizen, who after tearing the course up on Thursday, had to settle for a level-par round, leaving him at nine-under par.

Belgian Thomas Detry will be disappointed with his finish as he dropped three shots in his last two holes, to end his second round at one-under par, leaving him seven-under for the tournament, good enough for solo third.

Detry also received one of the luckiest breaks of the season on the 17th hole...

Unfortunately for Detry, he still went on to double bogey the hole.

Lombard started his second round five shots off the lead and he got off to a poor start, missing an eight-footer to save par at the first, but he bounced back with a birdie at the second hole and found two more before the turn.

The South African's back nine got off to a flyer, eagling the par-5 10th, which he followed up with a birdie at 11. Two more birdies for Lombard came at 15 and 16, with Detry dropping down the leaderboard due to his poor finish, to give Lombard a two-shot lead.

Shot of the Day

Yesterday's shot of the day went to Lee Westwood for his incredible bunker shot from a simply awful lie and the Englishman has only gone and got GolfMagic's shot of the day for the second day running.

This time it wasn't from the sand but from the rough, where Westwood's tee shot had gone astray, leaving him a difficult approach shot under and over the trees from the rough. I don't think anyone expected what happened next...
