Mito Pereira goes on birdie tear to lead LIV Golf Washington
Mito Pereira is closing in on his first LIV Golf win in Washington, DC.
Chile's Mito Pereira birdied five of his last seven holes to take a one-shot lead into the final round of LIV Golf Washington.
Unfortunately for Pereira he is currently associated with an awful tee shot on the 72nd hole at the final round of the 2022 U.S. Open where he found the water hazard with victory in sight.
His anguish of that moment was captured perfectly in the Netlix documentary Full Swing. But he has a chance to claim his first win on the rival circuit he joined in the off-season.
Pereira sits atop the leaderboard at 9-under after posting a 5-under 67 at Trump National.
Harold Varner III - who made this admission earlier in the week - sits one stroke behind the 28-year-old Chilean.
Henrik Stenson, Kevin Na, Cameron Smith, Sebastian Munoz, Louis Oosthuizen, Eugenio Chacarra and Branden Grace also make up the top-10 as well as Andy Ogletree, who has been substituted in after Paul Casey withdrew.

At the other end of the leaderboard Phil Mickelson is languishing in 43rd place after 36 holes at 5-over.
Sihwan Kim has kept up his dreadful form and is 47th. Before the round began Jason Kokrak was forced to withdraw due to injury.
LIV Golf's first major champion Brooks Koepka is six strokes off the lead.

On the team front, Torque lead Stinger and the RangeGoats by three strokes at 18-under.
As is standard in breakaway tour events, the winner will receive $4m.
