John Daly's request for golf cart at The Open "under consideration"
R&A contemplating whether or not to accept John Daly's request for a golf cart at Royal Portrush.
John Daly has reportedly submitted another request for a golf cart in a major championship, this time to the Royal & Ancient ahead of The Open at Royal Portrush in July.
Daly was permitted the use of a golf cart at this month's US PGA Championship at Bethpage Black where he qualified as a former winner of the tournament.
The Wild Thing told the USGA ahead of that tournament that he could not walk more than six holes at a time due to osteoarthritis in his right knee, and he petitioned under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Daly went on to shoot rounds of 75 and 76 to miss the cut.
Fully exempt for this year's Open after lifting the Claret Jug at St Andrews in 1995, the R&A told Golf.com this week that the two-time major champion has been in touch about being able to use a golf cart at Royal Portrush.
"We have received a request from John Daly to use a buggy at The Open, and it is currently under consideration," said an R&A spokesperson.
Daly, 53, has not made the cut at The Open since Royal Lytham in 2012, but he will remain exempt until age 60 as a past champion.
"I enjoy playing. I'm still competitive," said Daly. "I think getting to play hopefully the British in a cart. Past champions I think if we can play, no matter what it takes, I think we should."
