FedEx St. Jude Championship: How much they all won

Will Zalatoris walked away with a huge pay day as he claimed his maiden PGA Tour victory at the FedEx St. Jude Championship.

Will Zalatoris made hard work of his emotional, maiden win on the PGA Tour at the FedEx St. Jude Championship at TPC Southwind.

After a frankly emotionally exhausting playoff against Sepp Straka, a tearful Zalatoris broke down and hugged his girlfriend after finally getting the win.

It has been, as they say, a long journey for Zalatoris up until this point. The 25-year-old had previously played in 55 PGA Tour events without a win.

Of course, that may not sound like much, considering the tournament schedule and the fact players can go what seems like a lifetime without winning. Just ask LIV rebel Dick Bland.

Zalatoris had previously mustered as many as 16 top-10s, including four as the runner-up. He closed out his Sunday with a sublime 66 after a shaky start on Thursday that he must have felt was going to cost him.

A clutch par save at the 72nd hole and a verbal shot at the haters saw him reach a playoff which went onto become one for the ages. He will undoubtedly look back on those holes, going toe-to-toe with Sepp Straka and think to himself: what the heck did I just do?!

The PGA Tour loyalists will tell you winning means more than the money. But Zalatoris did collect a hefty pay day for his efforts. As did his new caddie, who claimed $270,000 on debut.

I mean, he did earn it, convincing Zalatoris to take a drop when he was contemplating a ridiculous shot when his golf ball somehow found itself wedged between a rock and the Bermudagrass.

Zalatoris earned $2,700,000 for his maiden victory. The prize purses have been increasing in recent years and will grow even more in response to LIV Golf.

The prize purse here was $15million. This tournament replaced the Northern Trust as the PGA Tour's first FedEx Cup Playoff event. Last year, it had a prize purse of $9.7million. Tony Finau won that, earning $1.71million.
