Tiger Woods reportedly told caddie Joe LaCava he'd be 'crazy' not to take Patrick Cantlay's bag.

LaCava was spotted at Quail Hollow Club alongside Cantlay on Tuesday. Initially, it was believed LaCava was filling in on a short-term basis.

Cantlay parted ways with his long-time looper after the Zurich Classic of New Orleans a few weeks ago.

LaCava has previously worked with the golfer in 2021 so it was no surprise to see the 68-year-old behind the ropes with the slowest player on tour Cantlay.

He has been keeping busy as Woods faces another long spell out of the game.

The caddie teamed up with Steve Stricker during the aforementioned team event on the PGA Tour recently.

But it has now been confirmed that LaCava and Cantlay will be together on a permanent basis, meaning that Woods' 2023 is essentially over.

According to Dan Rapaport, Woods gave LaCava his full blessing, saying:

"You'd be crazy not to take the job. Go for it. Go wins some tournaments and have a great time."

Tiger Woods' agent Mark Steinberg provides statement

According to ESPN, Woods' agent Mark Steinberg revealed more about the split.

He said:

"Joe called Tiger to ask him and get his approval. Of course, Tiger gave it. Tiger and Joe are like brothers, tremendous friends. You shouldn't read anything more in to that other than Joe wants to caddie. He loves it. It's his passion. He's great at it and one of the best. Tiger said repeatedly he's going to play a very limited schedule around the majors, his events, the father-son, assuming that everything goes well in the rehab and recovery. Joe wants to work, and so I think got that. We're just moving on."
