Rory McIlroy sent a fan absolutely wild during the PGA Tour's season finale just by giving a high five. 

McIlroy, 34, wasn't having the best of weeks at the Tour Championship at East Lake.

He was struggling with a lower back injury. It all happened when he went for a gentle stretch and a foam rolling session prior to the tournament, causing his back to go into spasm. 

He battled through, but was miles behind runaway leader Viktor Hovland as he attempted to win his fourth FedEx Cup title. 

Still, he seemed in good spirits and made this young woman's day and then some, simply by giving her a gentle high five that most golfers do as he trudged down the fairway. 

The moment arrived on No.11 - a 202-yard par-3 - and McIlroy was 1-under for his round. 

No sooner did he acknowledge the fan did she go absolutely wild. And didn't she let her pals know just how happy she was

McIlroy two-putted for par and at the very next hole he hit his tee shot wildly right, striking a fan on the wrist. 

It appeared to crack their watch but the Northern Irishman made up for it, apologising with a signed glove.
