Sepp Straka has to pay for "frat" house after winning John Deere Classic

Sepp Straka's win at the John Deere Classic came with a hefty cost.

On Sunday in Silvis, Illinois, Sepp Straka shot a final-round 9-under 62 to win the John Deere Classic and earn $1.33m with it.

However, that new sum of money also came with a hefty condition: paying for the rental.

For the second-straight year, a large group of PGA Tour players stayed together in the same house while playing in the John Deere Classic.

Last year, it was JT Poston, Brendon Todd, Greyson Sigg, Ben Kohles, Denny McCarthy, and Patton Kizzire.

Poston went on to win the tournament for his first PGA Tour title in a few years and second of his career.

So, naturally, he and the crew made sure to get the same rental house for this year's John Deere Classic as well.

There was a slight change to the roster, however, with Straka and Chris Kirk replacing Todd and Kohles.

McCarthy confirmed on Saturday that Todd had not, in fact, been kicked out, but opted to stay with his family instead. Kohles was not in the field for this week's tournament.

During Poston's press conference for this year's tournament on Wednesday, a reporter referred to their rental home as the "frat house."

"Yes, we have the same house, We have six of us in there this week," he said. "A lot of us were in the house last year, and so we jumped on it and got the same one again. A lot of cards and having fun back at the house after the rounds."

After Saturday's third round, plenty of the players staying at the "frat" house were in contention, including McCarthy.

"We got a lot of good golfers that are all staying together. It's funny because we're all pretty good at -- we've been playing a bunch of games at the house too. You know, throwing frisbee, baseball. We're all pretty good at that stuff too," McCarthy told reporters.

"It's been a fun week. We've been playing cards, board games, outdoor activities, so it's been fun. Once you leave the golf course to go back to the house, everyone is there, and you just kind of jump into whatever game they're playing at the time. So it's been a fun week."

On Sunday, despite being further down the leaderboard than some other members of the house, Straka fired off a career-low round to win the tournament by two strokes over Alex Smalley and former "frat house" resident Todd.

Afterwards, Straka was asked if this meant he was now in charge of paying for the rental.

"Oh, yeah. They're not letting me off the hook there," Straka said.

After his win was official, Straka was congratulated on the range by fellow house member and defending champion Poston, as well as his former University of Georgia Bulldogs teammate Keith Mitchell.
