Shane Lowry fires perfect response to his Ryder Cup doubters at Irish Open

Shane Lowry proves doubters wrong with strong display at Irish Open.

Shane Lowry fires perfect response to his Ryder Cup doubters at Irish Open

Shane Lowry fired the perfect response to his Ryder Cup doubters by finishing tied third on home soil at the Irish Open.

Lowry carded a final-round 68 at The K Club to finish tied third on 12-under par and two strokes behind two-time DP World Tour champion Vincent Norrman

The 36-year-old Irishman was considered a tad fortunate to receive one of Luke Donald's six captain's picks in the European Ryder Cup team earlier this week.

Lowry will be making his second consecutive appearance in the team.

But after a number of indifferent results over the summer, Lowry produced the perfect response with his best result of the season at the Irish Open.

It also marked his best finish since he won the BMW PGA Championship in September 2022, a tournament he will defend this week.

Many golf fans out there consider Adrian Meronk should have been favoured over Lowry for a pick.

But when you crunch the stats further, Lowry has now finished above Meronk nine times out of 13 when they have faced each other this season.

For us here at GolfMagic, we think Meronk should have been favoured over Denmark's Nicolai Hojgaard

Lowry had a strong message for his haters earlier this week.

Lowry and Hojgaard were joined by Justin Rose, Tommy Fleetwood, Ludvig Aberg and Sepp Straka in receiving wildcard picks in the European Ryder Cup team.

The Ryder Cup takes place at Marco Simone in Rome, Italy, at the end of this month.

Donald will be taking all of his European Ryder Cup team out to Italy over the next couple of days for some practice.

The team will then return and all compete in the BMW PGA at Wentworth this week.
