DP World Tour makes announcement after third-round suspension at Genesis Scottish Open
Heavy fog forced officials to halt play at The Renaissance Club, with Rory McIlroy among three players tied for the lead.
Play in the third round of the Genesis Scottish Open at The Renaissance Club in North Berwick has been suspended after thick fog made conditions unplayable.
Round three began as scheduled on Saturday morning, but deteriorating visibility forced tournament officials to halt play at 10:45am local time.
The DP World Tour confirmed the decision in a brief statement:
"Play suspended at 10:45 local time due to fog. Further announcements to come."
Players have since returned to the clubhouse at The Renaissance Club as they await further details of a restart time.
The delay is expected to have a knock-on effect on the remainder of the day's schedule, with tee times now set to be pushed back.
Tournament Director Miguel Vidaor has provided an update on the current situation at the Genesis Scottish Open:
The final pairing of Jordan Smith and Tom Kim had originally been due to begin their third rounds at 3:35pm local time, but that start time will now be delayed.
Smith and Kim share the halfway lead on nine-under par alongside Rory McIlroy, who is set to play in the penultimate group with fellow European Ryder Cup star Matt Fitzpatrick.
Just one shot behind the leading trio are Fitzpatrick and former Genesis Scottish Open champion Min Woo Lee on eight-under par.
Defending champion Chris Gotterup is also firmly in contention at seven-under par after arriving in Scotland fresh from victory on the PGA Tour last week. The American is joined on the same mark by home favourite and 2024 Scottish Open champion Bob MacIntyre.
