Golf fans stunned by LIV Golf Promo featuring Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy
LIV Golf sparks backlash with promo featuring golf legends and PGA Tour stars.
Golf fans were left doing a double take after LIV Golf dropped a rather bizarre season teaser featuring some of the biggest names in PGA Tour history.
Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Jack Nicklaus, Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas are not names you’d expect to see linked with LIV Golf in any capacity – but that didn’t stop the breakaway league from leaning into the rivalry with a playful (and provocative) promo.
The video, which you can watch below, quickly sparked debate across social media. As with any left-field marketing stunt, reaction was split straight down the middle.
Some fans were far from impressed, branding the clip embarrassing and suggesting it smacked of desperation.
“When you definitely know you’ve lost, you start posting stuff like this,” wrote one fan.
Another added: “This is hilarious – LIV won’t be laughing when they lose more superstars.”
Others echoed similar sentiments, questioning the motive behind the promo and whether it crossed the line.
Not everyone was rolling their eyes, though. Unsurprisingly, LIV Golf supporters were far more receptive.
“Long LIV Golf,” posted one fan.
“This is so good,” commented another, while a third admitted: “Dammit, you actually put out a good one.”

The clip even raised eyebrows from a legal standpoint, with some fans asking whether LIV Golf were allowed to use PGA Tour footage in their promotional content.
The eyebrow-raising teaser arrives just a week after Fox Sports were forced into a mulligan of their own, following a broadcast promo graphic that managed to spell three player surnames incorrectly.
LIV Golf’s 2026 season gets underway this week under the lights in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, as the league looks to reset after a turbulent 12 months.

That turbulence was summed up at the end of 2025 when Brooks Koepka shocked the golf world by quitting LIV Golf – only to be reinstated onto the PGA Tour just three weeks later ahead of the 2026 campaign.
While LIV has managed to retain star names such as Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau, the future remains uncertain for the latter. Contract discussions are ongoing, with DeChambeau reportedly holding out for a deal worth in the region of $500 million to stay beyond this season.
As ever, LIV Golf continues to divide opinion – and this latest promo has only poured more fuel on the fire.
