Greg Norman issues damning verdict after Anthony Kim's excuse for topping…

Greg Norman has issued a damning response to Anthony Kim after learning what caused the new LIV Golf player to top his shot on the par-5 18th in the first round at LIV Golf Jeddah.

Kim, 38, was making his first competitive start for 12 years after putting pen to paper on a new deal LIV Golf this season.

UPDATE: ANTHONY KIM'S HORROR LIV GOLF DEBUT CONTINUES IN R2 AT JEDDAH

The three-time PGA Tour winner and former US Ryder Cup star has been handed an exemption to compete in all of the remaining LIV Golf events in 2024.

Kim will not get to represent a team, but he will compete as one of the individual wildcards every week on LIV Golf.

The American was no doubt wishing he had some teammates to fall back on in the first round at LIV Golf Jeddah in Saudi Arabia on Friday as things did not go to plan with a 76.

It sees him lie dead last after R1.

Kim teed off on the par-5 18th in the shotgun start and got off to a shocking start when he "topped his second shot right" according to playing partner Graeme McDowell.

It was later confirmed by on-course commentator Dom Boulet that Kim had been put off by an "overhead drone" that was covering the action.

After learning what exactly distracted Kim on his approach shot to the par-5 18th, Norman told Boulet "he's got to get used to it."

Norman is of course the LIV Golf CEO.

Kim eased into the round from there with four straight pars but then disaster struck once more as he hit a dreaded shank on 5.

To his credit, he holed a 25-footer for bogey.

Kim drained a birdie on the par-4 6th but then rattled off three straight bogeys from the 7th.

He then added two more bogeys on 12 and 15 en route to a round of 6-over 76

It leaves Kim 54th out of 54

Despite the lethargic start to his LIV Golf career, Kim was content to take the positives out of the round

Kim said:

"Obviously disappointed with the score but I played so much better than the score. I've got a lot to build on. Made a lot of unforced errors. That's unfortunate. But I feel like I'm not that far away."

In the Pro-Am, Kim was overheard asking for a mulligan on his opening tee shot!
