Legendary golf caddie gives 'refreshing' verdict after first LIV Golf experience
Billy Foster gives his honest LIV Golf League verdict after returning to the bag of Lee Westwood.
Renowned caddie Billy Foster has piled praise on LIV Golf following his first experience on the breakaway league this month.
Foster, 61, returned to Lee Westwood's bag just for the last three tournaments of the LIV Golf League season.
Former World No.1 Westwood, 52, and Foster initially worked together from 2009 through to 2018.
But the band reunited this month under a temporary arrangement that began in Chicago and ended in Michigan for the Team Championship.
Westwood was on the bubble of the drop zone in 48th position when Foster joined his bag, but thankfully finishes of 39th in Chicago and 17th in Indianapolis were enough to see the Englishman finish 46th and secure his playing privileges for another season on LIV Golf.
Sadly there was no such fortune for his fellow Majesticks GC co-captain Henrik Stenson, who ended the season in 49th and in the drop zone.
It now remains to be seen what happens to Stenson's future career on LIV Golf.
Their fellow co-captain Ian Poulter narrowly made it through on the number in 48th.
LIV Golf have confirmed team captains are no longer immune from relegation.
It is understood the decision is part of the PIF-backed breakaway's attempt to get OWGR recognition.
Foster took to social media after the Majesticks finished a lowly 11th out of 12 in the Team Championship at the weekend.
Despite the disappointing result for Westwood's team, Foster admitted his first experience of LIV Golf was a positive one.
The biggest thumbs up from Foster was pace of play.
Foster captioned a post of him alongside Westwood:
"Thanks Dawg for amazing 3 weeks, great fun, great competition, Golf that was really enjoyable & 3 balls round in 4 hours or less refreshing to say the least."
Prior to their reunion, Westwood joked to bunkered that Foster could just do with a bit of exercise.
"Curious to see what he's been doing for the last few years," he said.
Westwood and Foster mutually split in 2018 following a successful nine-year partnership.
Since then, Foster has gone on to work for the likes of Matt Fitzpatrick.
Foster helped Fitzpatrick win the 2022 US Open but they agreed to part ways earlier this season.
The huge Leeds United fan admitted he was disappointed with Fitzpatrick's decision.
But he did wish him all the best success.
Foster's first gig since the split saw him carry Collin Morikawa's clubs at the Scottish Open and at the final men's major of the year at Royal Portrush.
It remains to be seen whether Foster picks up a bag on a full-time basis in 2026.
