Report: Two recent PGA Tour winners in talks to join LIV Golf in 2026

The representatives of two recent PGA Tour winners are said to be in talks to join LIV Golf in 2026, according to Golf Digest. 

While the names of the two players have not been confirmed by the publication, GolfMagic has attempted to narrow the search down for you in this article by looking at the latest winners on the PGA Tour.

It is understood from Golf Digest's latest report that the two PGA Tour players in talks with LIV Golf are not similar profiles to that of Jon Rahm, who signed a multi-year deal in the region of $400m at the end of 2023, but they are likely to raise eyebrows should they put pen to paper on transfers for 2026. 

Earlier this season it came to light that the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) will no longer be handing out huge upfront fees to new LIV Golf players like in previous years, as looks to make changes to its transfer policy. 

"Sources tell Golf Digest that representatives of two recent tour winners are in discussions with LIV," writes Joel Beall in his latest column.

"Other rank-and-file names are angling for one last career payday. 

"None of them is a high-profile get—Jon Rahm remains the only major star to defect in four years—but they are recognizable enough to trigger another cycle of "what is the state of the game?" handwringing."

Golf Digest's latest update on LIV Golf transfers comes off the back of popular golf social media account Flushing It confirming a number of PGA Tour and DP World Tour players are in "conversations" to join the breakaway Saudi-bankrolled golf league next season.

Flushing It confirmed during the Ryder Cup that a number of LIV Golf franchises are looking to "strengthen" their rosters ahead of the league's fifth season, which begins Riyadh in February. 

There are reportedly "at least six spots" left to fill on the LIV Golf League in 2026. 

Which PGA Tour players are in talks with LIV Golf for 2026?

So who are the two recent PGA Tour winners currently "in discussions" to join LIV Golf then? 

While the names have not been confirmed, we can certainly narrow the search down based on looking at the latest winners on the PGA Tour.

It is no secret by now that LIV Golf has wanted to target major champions. 

So if that indeed remains the case, and let's face it they aren't going to get Rory McIlroy or Scottie Scheffler, then you could be looking at JJ Spaun, who won the US Open in June, or maybe even 2023 Open champion Brian Harman, who won the Texas Open in April.

Other potential candidates that could fit the LIV Golf bill include big-hitting Cameron Young, who joint top scored for Team USA on his Ryder Cup debut last month, or impressive two-time season winner Ben Griffin, who also played in his first Ryder Cup taking one point from two. 

Young was heavily linked with a move to LIV Golf two years ago before eventually shutting it down, but perhaps a door remains open? 

Another Ryder Cupper that might be contemplating a shock switch to LIV Golf is Sepp Straka, who played twice in the fourballs alongside Rahm. Perhaps the Legion XIII captain has been having a quiet word? 

Any of the quintet moving across to the LIV Golf League in 2026 would most certainly raise a few eyebrows. 

Other notables from the recent winners list include Chris Gotterup, who burst onto the scene with a victory at the Genesis Scottish Open followed by a solo third at The Open in July, as well as journeymen Kurt Kitayama and Brian Campbell. 

There has also been a social media rumour swirling that big-hitting South African Aldrich Potgieter could be on the move. 

Whether that's true remains to be seen, but one golf fan certainly thinks his performance at this week's Baycurrent Classic speaks volumes.

Quite frankly, who knows... but what we do know is that at least six places are to be filled ahead of the new season and LIV Golf is very much stepping up its search as we speak.
