Cameron Young extended his lead from five to six on day three of the Cadillac Championship at Trump National Doral.

Young, 28, carded a composed 70 to move to 15-under par for the tournament, which marks the fifth Signature Event of the PGA Tour season.

The world number four is now on the verge of winning for the second time this season, having already captured The Players Championship in March.

The American is also seeking a third career title on the PGA Tour, and a victory on Sunday would move Young back to third in the world rankings.

The job is not yet done though and Young knows it, especially with world number one Scottie Scheffler in a share of second place alongside Si Woo Kim and Kristoffer Reitan on nine-under par.

"It won't change really how I play, especially on the front nine," Young told reporters when asked how he feels about having a six-shot lead.

"I may be a hair more conservative in a place or two, but with the weather looking the way it does, that would be how I would be playing anyway. So, yeah, I said it yesterday, no lead is safe I don't think out here.

"I would love it to be 12, but it's six. I'm going to go try to execute my plan as if I'm right around the lead or just trying to have a good day out there, not necessarily with any thought toward where I'm at in the tournament."

Scheffler was asked the same question, but the four-time major champion knows the tournament is now Young's to lose.

"Yeah, the tournament's in his hands right now," Scheffler said of his chances for a comeback win.

"I can go out and have a really good round, and if he has another really good round he's going to be a tough guy to catch.

"All I can do is go out and try and have a great round and see where that leaves me."

The PGA Tour has confirmed due to bad weather in the area that there will be threesomes off split tees, instead of two-balls off the first tee as originally planned in the schedule.

Tee times for the final round have also been brought forward in a bid to get the final round completed before the storms arrives at Doral.

Scheffler and Kim will join Young in Sunday's final threesome on the Blue Monster course.

U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to be on site during Sunday's final round.

Tournament officials have issued an enhanced security notice for spectators as a result of Trump's expected arrival.
