Former US Open champion Lucas Glover has doubled down on his previous criticism of the PGA Tour

Glover has never minced his words when it comes to offering his thoughts on where the North American circuit is heading.

Chief of the American's complaints is the PGA Tour's signature events model and the reduction of field sizes.

The 45-year-old is also not happy that, starting from 2026, only the top 100 players in the FedEx Cup will retain their full status.

In Glover's view, this is extremely short-sighted and he explained why on the Golf Channel before the John Deere Classic

"I think everybody should have a voice and I think everybody should be taken into account when decisions are made," Glover said.

"And limiting access is not a way to grow the talent coming into the PGA Tour in my opinion and making fields smaller doesn't increase competition. That's impossible. It doesn't make any sense.

"We're the only sports organisation that's saying that less players means more competition and that's been my soap box.

"Every other sport has widened the fields, broadened their playoffs. [There are] more games, more teams, expanding and we are using pace of play as a crutch to say we need less players and I just don't agree with that."

Next season, standard events that previously held 156 players will now be capped at 144, or further reduced to 132 or 120 depending on daylight.

Even the flagship Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass will be moved to a field size of 120 players.

Glover previously claimed those changes were only made to appease the top players.

The golfer said Tour members should be simply told to play faster and he even unveiled and eight-point plan to combat the issue.

He's not against players receiving penalty strokes for taking too long.

He added: "I think that's short-sighted and honestly not the right way to go about it. We're trying to grow the game and create opportunities for young players to be the next superstars [and] for consistent older players to have a place to play.

"Limiting that is not the way to do that in my opinion."

Glover is currently ranked 16th in the FedEx Cup.

PGA Tour changes payouts of FedEx Cup playoffs bonus money

Elsewhere, the PGA Tour have confirmed they are altering how the $100m is paid out in the FedEx Cup playoffs.

Because the season-ending Tour Championship will no longer have a starting strokes format, the winner will now receive $10m in bonus money, with $5m going to second place and $355,000 going to last place.

There used to be a $25m bonus paid to the winner but this is no longer the case.

Instead, that money is being spread out in three waves at the Wyndham Championship, BMW Championship and Tour Championship.

After the conclusion of the Wyndham Championship, $20m will be split among the top 10 in the FedEX Cup, including $10m to the leader.

Another $22,925,000 will be distributed among the top 30 after BMW, including $5m to the leader.

And then the remaining $57.08m, including $10m to the winner at East Lake, will be awarded based on how players finish in the Tour Championship.
