Has PGA Tour boss done anything to regain trust? Lucas Glover: "No"

Lucas Glover has explained why he hates the PGA Tour's signature events and why he has quit going to the members' meetings.

Has PGA Tour boss done anything to regain trust? Lucas Glover:

Lucas Glover says PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan and the 'top brass' haven't done anything to restore the players' trust since the North American circuit entered into a framework agreement with LIV Golf's financiers.

In an interview with Golfweek, the American says he now has quit going to the members' meetings.

The 43-year-old also criticised the PGA Tour's lucrative signature events, claiming he believes there is no reason why the fields can't be larger.

Glover is not the only high-profile player to still seem somewhat annoyed with the leadership.

Last week Xander Schauffele called for the aforementioned Monahan to quit

"It's a bit contradictory when they call it 'our Tour' and things can happen without us even knowing," Schauffele said.

Asked if Monahan had done anything in the months since the deal with LIV's bankrollers was announced to restore players' trust, Glover said: "No."

He also wasn't sure where to start in the process of allowing LIV players back to the PGA Tour in the future. "I have no idea," he added.

Whilst Glover didn't offer too many thoughts on the PGA-LIV issues, he did speak more openly about next year's signature events.

Signature events will feature field sizes of 70-80 players made up of the best performers from the last season and the current season.

There will be no cuts and the prize purses are astronomical.

Like Jack Nicklaus, Glover reckons the Tour will now split in two. He's glad to be in them, but 'still thinks they're terrible'.

He explained:

"I said that when I wasn't in them. I don’t think it needs to be divided like it is. I mean, it's basically two tours, and there' no reason those fields shouldn't be bigger. The ironic one to me is the Players at 144 guys is the signature event of the PGA Tour with a cut and 144 guys. So yeah, I thought they were terrible when they announced them, I think they are terrible now."

When are the signature events?

  • The Sentry (Jan. 1-7)
  • AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am (Jan. 29-Feb. 4)
  • The Genesis Invitational (Feb. 12-18)

  • RBC Heritage (April 15-21)
  • Wells Fargo Championship (May 6-12)
  • the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday (June 3-9)
