Jackson Koivun withstands late Scottie Scheffler charge to claim first PGA Tour title
Jackson Koivun claimed his first PGA Tour title at TPC Twin Cities.
Jackson Koivun withstood a late charge from Scottie Scheffler to claim his first PGA Tour title at the 3M Open in Minnesota.
Koivun, 21, started the final round with a six-shot cushion over the world number one, but Scheffler's closing birdie at the 18th reduced the deficit to just two shots.
But the former Auburn star held his nerve down the stretch, playing the final three holes in 1-under to finish on a 72-total of 25-under.
His bogey-free 5-under 66 also saw him set a new tournament scoring record for the 3M Open.
Koivun won by three strokes from Scheffler, with major champions Hideki Matsuyama and Brian Harman among a group of four players in a tie for third.

It represents Koivun's first PGA Tour title on only his third start since turning professional after the 2026 U.S. Open.
A visibly emotional Koivun embraced his father in the immediate aftermath of victory.
He told Amanda Balionis of CBS Sports: "I played a great round of golf today.
"Definitely had some nerves coming down on 18.
"But, you know, all throughout the crowd I kept hearing: 'Scottie's coming, Scottie's coming'.
"And I just tried to tone that out and keep playing the golf I knew I could.
"And I was able to find some good parts coming down the stretch."
Koivun revealed that he writes the words trust, confidence and dominate on his golf glove.
"Dominance is what I came up with in college because I just wanted to see how good I could play," he said.
"And I kind of came up with it with my short game coach, Josh Gregory.
"And it helped me a lot with my mindset in college golf this year. And I just kept doing it."
He added: "I just love this game. I love golf. It's everything I do.
"I have a tough time getting away from it, but like I said, it's been love at first sight.
"And I just want to say thanks to my parents for helping me get into this and supporting me throughout the entire journey."
Scheffler, who now boasts 10 top five finishes on the PGA Tour this season, said: "I haven't spoken to Jackson yet. I haven't had a chance to see him hit a shot yet.
"Obviously, I've heard about his pedigree in college, but I haven't been able to see it in person yet. I'm looking forward to that."
He added: "I feel like we're seeing a lot of really, really good young talent in the game today.
"When you see the guys come out of college, they're really, really prepared, even more prepared than we were coming out years ago.
"I think a lot of times you can see that belief when they see some other guys have success and that guys that they're competing against and you get out here, it only can give these guys more confidence.
"We're seeing a ton of talent coming up from the college ranks and PGA Tour U.
"I think it's really good for the sport and really good for our tour as well."
Jackson Koivun's college career
He arrived at Auburn in 2023 as one of the top junior golf recruits in the United States and quickly put together one of the greatest freshman seasons in NCAA men's golf history.
During his college career he:
- Won the SEC individual championship three times.
- Helped Auburn win two NCAA team national championships.
- Became the first player to sweep the four major collegiate golf awards in a single season (2024): the Haskins Award, Jack Nicklaus Award, Ben Hogan Award and Phil Mickelson Outstanding Freshman Award.
- Earned the number one spot in the World Amateur Golf Ranking before turning professional in 2026
