Justin Rose got his 2026 PGA Tour season off to a flying start by cruising to his second career Farmers Insurance Open title with a record-breaking performance at famed Torrey Pines.

Rose, 45, fired rounds of 62, 65, 68 and 70 to finish the week on 23-under par and seven shots clear of Si Woo Kim, Ryo Hisatsune and Pierceson Coody.

Rose's exceptional performance in glorious San Diego sunshine saw him break Tiger Woods' 72-hole tournament record in the process.

Woods (1999) and George Burns (1987) held the previous tournament record score of 22-under par.

Rose's win marks the 13th of his PGA Tour career and his second at the Farmers Insurance Open having prevailed by two strokes (21-under par) over Adam Scott in 2019.

The Englishman's seven-shot win on Sunday marks the tournament's biggest victory margin since Woods' eight-shot romp in 2008.

Woods has won a record eight times at Torrey Pines, with seven of those wins at the Farmers Insurance Open and one at the US Open (2008).

It's also the biggest victory margin of Rose's professional career on either the PGA Tour or DP World Tour. He won by eight shots at the 2017 Indonesian Masters on the Asian Tour.

Rose scooped a giant $1.728 million for winning the 2026 Farmers Insurance Open.

It was a ball striking clinic all four days from Rose as he ranked first for greens in regulation on 82% (59/72).

After the round, Rose admitted to on-course commentator Gary Christian that he was fully aware of Woods and Burns' 72-hole record.

"The biggest challenge today was trying to make it feel the same as the last few days," said Rose on the 18th green.

"Today wasn't my lowest score but it was a good score, did all the right things, didn't get myself in trouble.

"Tournament record, 23 under par, so I was aware of that, so just wanted to finish as strongly as I could."

Rose holds the record for the most PGA Tour wins by an English golfer, with 13 career victories as of February 2026.

He surpassed the previous record of nine, held by Sir Nick Faldo, when winning the 2019 Farmers Insurance Open.

Justin Rose sets multiple records at Farmers Insurance Open

Rose's latest victory at the Farmers Insurance Open saw him become the oldest wire-to-wire winner on the PGA Tour since a 47-year-old Rocco Mediate won the 2010 Frys Open (now the Procore Championship).

The European Ryder Cup hero also becomes the first player to hold a solo lead in every round and win the Farmers Insurance Open since Tommy Bolt in 1955. Johnny Miller went wire-to-wire in 1982, but he was tied after the first round.

Not even Woods won this event wire-to-wire.

Rose, who also broke the 54-hole scoring record (21-under par) at the Farmers Insurance Open, led by six shots entering the final round.

No lead is ever big enough on the PGA Tour but the 2013 US Open champion rarely looked in danger on Sunday.

Rose opened with five important par saves before surging clear of the chasing pack with three birdies in four holes to the turn, highlighted by a 35-foot bomb on the par-5 9th.

The former World No.1 dropped a shot on the tough par-4 12th but he still led comfortably by seven shots at that stage.

Rose kept his composure from there with consecutive pars as he cruised serenely to a deserved seven-shot victory on a record 23-under par.

Rose continues to prove why Ryder Cup captaincy is too soon

Last year, many in the golf world - including legends Sir Nick Faldo, Sam Torrance, Ian Woosnam and Sandy Lyle - were throwing Rose's name into the ring to replace Luke Donald as 2027 European Ryder Cup captain at Adare Manor, Ireland.

But Rose has been having none of it, regularly citing he's still only interested in competing in the biennial contest as a player rather than a skipper. At least at this stage of his career.

The Englishman's performance, not only at Torrey Pines but also at Bethpage Black for Europe in September and at TPC Southwind when winning the FedEx St Jude Championship in August, have well and truly proven he's spot on with that assessment.

Now inside the world's top 10 at 45 years old, Rose is very much proving age is just a number when it comes to professional golf.

Even Donald himself knows it.

With Rose out the running for the European Ryder Cup team captaincy, Donald is a heavy odds-on favourite to retain the armband.

The only other contender is Italy's Francesco Molinari, who is said to be next in line should Donald decide not to proceed.

Should Donald remain at the helm, then he will have a chance to become the first and only captain in the 100-year history of the Ryder Cup to win three contests in a row.

Donald joined Tony Jacklin for two cups in a row when leading Europe to victory (15-13) at Bethpage, New York, in September.

He also skippered Europe to victory (16.5-11.5) at Marco Simone in Rome in 2023.

Brooks Koepka's rusty return

The Farmers Insurance Open marked the return to PGA Tour action of Brooks Koepka, who quit the LIV Golf League at the end of 2025.

Koepka, a five-time major champion, was reinstated to the PGA Tour last month under a newly-designed Returning Membership policy.

The former World No.1 looked rusty as anticipated but he made the cut on the number at 3-under par.

Koepka carded indifferent rounds of 73, 68, 73 and 70 to finish the week on 4-under par in T56.

"The biggest change out here now is that I don't know about half the guys, so it will be fun to get to know everybody," said Koepka.

On heading into this week's WM Phoenix Open at TPC Scottsdale, a tournament he has won twice before, Koepka is excited to get back to one of his favourite events on the schedule.

"I enjoy the chaos. It's four years since I've been back so excited to get back to a place I'm familiar with and a place I love."
