Justin Thomas misses two-footer en route to worst putting round of his career

Justin Thomas' putter was about as useful as a chocolate teapot during the third round of the Valspar Championship.

Justin Thomas endured the worst putting performance of his professional career during the third round of the Valspar Championship, with a missed two-footer summing up the day.

Thomas, 30, cut a frustrated figure at the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Resort on Saturday after his putter went completely cold on him.

The two-time major champion holed a 2.9-foot putt on the first hole for birdie, but from there, things went south very quickly. The American lost a staggering 7.034 strokes on the field with his flat stick.

Thomas finished day three having taken 38 putts, equating to a measly 22 feet 10 inches

Having holed the 2.9 footer on the 1st hole, JT had a share for the lead on a packed leaderboard, but what followed will be tough to forget for the multiple PGA Tour winner.

He ended up carding an 8-over 79, which is his worst score of 2024 by four shots and his worst outing since he handed in an 82 at The Open at Royal Liverpool last summer.

His round featured seven bogeys and a double, which included a three-putt from 13 feet and a painful 360-lip out that was reminiscent of Wyndham Clark's final hole heartbreak at the Players Championship.

Having struggled with his game for most of 2023, Thomas has already put in some notable performances this season, with a T3 at the American Express and a T6 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-am being the standout results.

Currently ranked 10th on the PGA Tour for strokes gained tee to green, Thomas' ball striking has been exemplary. However, when it comes to putting, he has seen himself drift right down the pecking order.

Currently ranked 149th on the PGA Tour in strokes gained putting, Thomas is losing, on average, just over half a shot on the field per round.

Having endured another difficult day with the putter on Sunday, Thomas finished the week rock bottom in the field for strokes gained putting, having lost 4.977 shots over the four days.

Thomas finished the tournament three over, following rounds of 68,69,79 and 71.
