Former U.S. Open champion Lucas Glover has offered his thoughts on a topic Scottie Scheffler feels very strongly about.

The topic? The format for the season-ending Tour Championship at East Lake.

Since 2019, the format for the PGA Tour's season finale in Atlanta has irked fans and even the players involved.

The big change to the structure saw the leader of the FedEx Cup come into the Tour Championship with a two-shot advantage.

Clearly, the format is designed to make sure the winner of the Tour Championship also becomes the FedEx Cup champion in order to keep the sponsors happy.

But change is coming, according to Golfweek.

It is understood the Tour will continue with strokeplay. However, the field will gradually be cut until four players remain to battle it out for the title.

Glover told his SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio show that the current format is 'contrived'.

"Sorry to keep using that term, but it is," he said.

"It's made-up drama, and we tried to model this after racing and it just doesn't work.

"It's golf, you know? You can't have playoffs in golf because nobody gets knocked out."

So what is the solution?

"Let's just play golf. If you’ve got a big lead you've got a big lead, you deserve to win, you know?"

Glover certainly appears to be in the same boat as the reigning World No.1.

Before last year's event, Scheffler did not hide his anger.

Even though he had a huge lead and went on to win the FedEx Cup for the first time, he questioned whether the Tour was really a season-long race.

"Hypothetically, we get to East Lake and my neck flares up and it doesn’t heal the way it did at The Players, I finish 30th in the FedEx Cup because I had to withdraw from the last tournament?

"Is that really the season-long race? No."

Scheffler is back in action this week at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson

The World No.1 is joined in the field by Jordan Spieth. Will Zalatoris and Gary Woodland have withdrawn.
