Patrick Cantlay has withdrawn from this week’s $20m Cadillac Championship at Trump National Doral due to illness.

Cantlay, 34, was arriving in strong form off the back of three straight top-12 finishes, but will now miss the PGA Tour's latest Signature Event in Miami.

Michael Thorbjornsen now replaces Cantlay in the 72-man field.

The rising American star will tee off at 1:30 p.m. ET on Thursday alongside Canada's Corey Conners.

Thorbjornsen had initially secured a place in the tournament before being bumped following Alex Fitzpatrick earning PGA Tour membership after victory at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans on Sunday.

The Cadillac Championship marks the PGA Tour’s return to Trump National Doral and its iconic Blue Monster course for the first time in a decade.

The venue previously hosted elite-level golf for more than 50 years, from the Doral Open era (1962–2006) through the WGC-Cadillac Championship (2007–2016).

World number one Scottie Scheffler headlines the field, however, the tournament is missing several high-profile names.

Rory McIlroy has opted to skip the event, marking his second consecutive absence from a Signature Event.

Other notable absentees include Xander Schauffele, Matt Fitzpatrick, Ludvig Åberg and Robert MacIntyre.

The Blue Monster remains one of the most recognisable layouts in professional golf, famously dominated by Tiger Woods, who won four times at the venue.

McIlroy also has a memorable history at Doral, notably throwing a club into a lake during a frustrated moment in 2015.

This week’s championship features a $20 million purse, with $3.6 million awarded to the winner.
