Lucas Glover has labelled the PGA Tour's signature events as 'selfish' and 'a money grab'.

Glover made the comments in an explosive interview with Golfweek

As far as Glover is concerned - despite the threat from LIV - he is unable to understand why so many changes have been made over the last two years.

The biggest change, of course, is the introduction of 'signature' events with prize purses of at least $20m and increased FedEx Cup points.

Fields are limited at these events. Some have a cut, others do not.

Getting into them is difficult too and it has led to the suggestion we now have two tours.

It would be an understatement to say they are a huge point of contention among the PGA Tour's membership.

The idea to have these events were first explored when Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy gathered the top stars in Delaware in August 2022.

After that meeting, we were led to believe getting the biggest stars competing against each other more frequently was the answer.

And for more money, too!

Unfortunately so far, the signature events have fallen a bit flat. The Sentry failed to deliver fireworks. Pebble Beach was washed out.

And the biggest draw at the Genesis Invitational - Mr Woods - was forced to withdraw. Jordan Spieth was also disqualified.

PGA Tour pro goes on sensational rant:

At Bay Hill this week, it could be argued it's a similar story.

There is only a field of 69 players.

Glover wonders why.

He told Golfweek he doesn't like the signature events at all. "It's selfish and a money grab," he blasted.

"Nothing that has happened in the last two years in golf, in my opinion, that will help the game.

"I've yet to figure out what's so bad out here that we had to do all the things we've done."

He continued: "I just don't see what was so bad out here that we had to do all this.

"Let's raise some purses to make sure we keep some guys around but now we've eliminated a lot of playing opportunities for some really good players."

Glover told the publication he would urge the media to grill commissioner Jay Monahan on the topic.

He said he would ask Monahan: "Why are the signature events (max) 80 players and only 50 make the cut but our biggest signature event next week [the Players] is 144 players with a full cut. THE signature event."

To sum up how fed up Glover is with the game, he told the publication: "I'm very happy I'm close to being done."
