RBC Canadian Open Betting Tips: Our expert is backing two players trending for PGA Tour victory

GolfMagic Editor and expert tipster Andy Roberts has identified two 14/1 contenders he believes are primed to challenge at TPC Toronto.

Last week's Memorial Tournament proved just how unpredictable golf betting can be. Few saw J.T. Poston lifting the trophy at odds of 150/1, and unfortunately there was no joy for our selections at Muirfield Village.

But with a new week comes a fresh opportunity.

GolfMagic Editor and expert tipster Andy Roberts has now turned his attention to this week's RBC Canadian Open, where he believes two of the tournament favourites offer the best value on the board at 14/1.

The PGA Tour returns to TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley's North Course, a par-70 measuring 7,389 yards. This will be just the second RBC Canadian Open staged at the venue, meaning course form is limited.

Thankfully, one of Andy's leading fancies produced an excellent performance here 12 months ago and last week, while his other pick also arrives fresh from another strong showing on one of the toughest tests in golf.

Let's dive in to Andy's two picks...

Sam Burns
Sam Burns

Outright Pick 1: Sam Burns (14/1)

Sam Burns looks ready to contend once again at TPC Toronto after finishing runner-up here last season and backing it up with a tied-fourth finish at the Memorial Tournament last week.

Burns was right in the thick of the action at Muirfield Village and held a share of the lead deep into Sunday's final round. A costly mistake at the par-4 17th ultimately ended his hopes, but there was far more to be encouraged by than discouraged. The five-time PGA Tour winner may not have lifted a trophy since the 2023 WGC Match Play, but his recent form suggests another victory is on the horizon.

His record at TPC Toronto is particularly encouraging. Burns finished 18-under-par here last year and was only denied by Ryan Fox in a playoff. Given that remains his strongest result over the past 12 months, it is clear the course suits his eye.

What also stands out is the strength of his putting. Burns ranked seventh in Strokes Gained: Putting at the Memorial and currently sits fourth in that category for the PGA Tour season. In what is expected to be another low-scoring week, a hot putter could prove decisive, and few players are more dangerous than Burns when he starts rolling in putts with confidence.

Three top-10 finishes this season and eight consecutive made cuts further underline the consistency in his game. Returning to a course where he has already enjoyed success, Burns, who is an RBC ambassador too, looks well placed to finally end his winless run, and the 14/1 available this week represents plenty of value.

Now for Andy's second pick...

Tommy Fleetwood
Tommy Fleetwood

Outright Pick 2: Tommy Fleetwood (14/1)

Tommy Fleetwood is another player who appears to be edging ever closer to victory and Canada could provide the perfect stage for him to secure a second PGA Tour title.

Like Burns, Fleetwood left the Memorial Tournament feeling he could have achieved more. The Englishman surged into contention with an eagle on the par-5 15th before a bogey at the 17th derailed his challenge. Despite finishing outside the playoff in a tie for fourth, it was another impressive performance that highlighted just how close he is to returning to the winner's circle.

Fleetwood arrives at TPC Toronto having recorded two top-five finishes in his last three starts and there are signs that all areas of his game are beginning to click at the same time. Most encouraging of all was his work on the greens at Muirfield Village. Putting has often been the one area holding Fleetwood back from converting contention into victories, but he ranked eighth in Strokes Gained: Putting last week, a significant improvement on his season-long ranking of 71st.

The rest of his game also looked in excellent shape. Fleetwood ranked seventh Off the Tee and second Around the Green at the Memorial, demonstrating just how complete his performance was against one of the strongest fields of the season.

While this will be his first competitive look at TPC Toronto, that should present little concern for a player of Fleetwood's quality. The world number seven has already spent time on site preparing for the week and arrives full of confidence ahead of next week's U.S. Open.

There is also perhaps a little unfinished business for Fleetwood in Canada. Many fans still remember his heartbreaking playoff defeat to Nick Taylor at the 2023 RBC Canadian Open, when the Canadian holed an unforgettable eagle putt to claim victory. Fleetwood had every chance to win that tournament and will no doubt relish another opportunity to contend north of the border.

His game is trending in the right direction, his confidence appears high and, if the putter continues to cooperate, Fleetwood looks more than capable of rewarding supporters at 14/1.

So those are Andy Roberts' two selections for this week's RBC Canadian Open: Sam Burns and Tommy Fleetwood

Both players arrive at TPC Toronto in strong form, both have genuine reasons to believe a victory is within reach, and both look attractively priced at 14/1.
