Davis Thompson, Rico Hoey and Doug Ghim raced to the top of the leaderboard with stunning rounds of 10-under par on day one of the RSM Classic on St. Simons Island, Georgia at the Sea Island Golf Club.
The $7m tournament marks the final event of the 2025 PGA Tour season, and it's a crucial one too with the top 100 in the standings come Sunday night earning their cards for 2026.
Thompson and Hoey achieved their rounds of 10-under 62 on the Plantation Course, while Ghim fired a 10-under 60 on the Seaside Course.
Players split the opening two rounds between the Seaside and Plantation courses, with each golfer playing both, before the cut is made on Friday.
Once the field is trimmed on Friday night, the weekend shifts exclusively to the Seaside Course where the tournament is decided.
Thompson and Hoey already had their cards for 2026, but Ghim did not entering the start of the week.
But all that could be about to change for Ghim, who started the week 125th in the FedEx Cup Fall standings.
Other players in contention for the title include Andrew Novak, who won earlier this season alongside Ben Griffin at the Zurich Classic, as well as up and coming stars Michael Thorbjornsen and Max McGreevy.
Novak will fancy his chances of landing a first individual title given he's the highest-ranked player in the OWGR of the top 20, and he's also playing a home game in Georgia.
Pre-tournament favourite Harris English could only manage a 3-under 67 on the Seaside Course.
English dropped a couple of bombshells ahead of the tournament by claiming the PGA Tour are considering some huge changes to the schedule.
One of them could involving scrapping the Signature Event model and having 20-22 equal events.
