Tiger Woods return rumours explode after PGA Tour tournament clue
Tiger Woods fuels return speculation with surprise appearance on tournament poster.
Golf fans are speculating that Tiger Woods could make his long-awaited return to the PGA Tour later this season after the 15-time major champion appeared on promotional material for the 2026 Baycurrent Classic.
The tournament shared a graphic on social media this week featuring Woods alongside former champions Xander Schauffele, Hideki Matsuyama and Collin Morikawa, immediately prompting fans to wonder whether Woods could be targeting the event for his competitive comeback.
Woods famously won the tournament — then known as the ZOZO Championship — in 2019, the same year he claimed his fifth Masters title and 15th major championship at The Masters.
The 2026 Baycurrent Classic is scheduled to take place at Yokohama Country Club from 8-11 October as part of the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup Fall Series.
One fan wrote beneath the tournament’s graphic: "I also jumped the gun thinking, ‘Is the Tiger coming?!’" — a reaction that summed up the excitement among PGA Tour fans over the prospect of Woods returning later this Fall.
Despite the speculation linking Woods with a return to action in Japan in October, there remains no official timeline for his return to professional golf.
Woods' last PGA Tour appearance came at The Open at Royal Troon in July 2024, where he missed the cut.
Earlier this week, Sports Illustrated reporter Bob Harig confirmed Woods, 50, will miss all four majors for a second consecutive season after failing to enter the deadline for The Open at Royal Birkdale from 16-19 July.
Woods had initially hoped to return to action at The Masters this April following the seventh back surgery of his career in October last year.
However, those plans were halted after his 27 March car crash and subsequent DUI arrest in Florida.
According to police reports, Woods was arrested following a rollover crash near his home in Jupiter Island.
Officers reportedly found two Hydrocodone pills — an opioid painkiller — in his pocket.
Woods registered 0.00 on a breathalyser test but refused to provide a urine sample.
His legal team later entered a written plea of not guilty to misdemeanor charges relating to DUI and refusal to submit to a lawful test, while also requesting a jury trial.
In the aftermath of the incident, Woods stepped away from several responsibilities within the game, including the opportunity to captain the United States Ryder Cup team at Adare Manor in 2027.
The PGA of America instead appointed Jim Furyk for a second stint as captain.
Woods has also paused his involvement with the PGA Tour Policy Board and Future Competition Committee as he continues to focus on his recovery and rehabilitation.
Reports in recent weeks have indicated Woods has been receiving treatment at a specialist rehabilitation clinic in Switzerland, with a particular focus on psychological support and pain management without the use of addictive opioids.
Woods’ private jet was recently tracked travelling between Florida and Zurich after he briefly returned to the United States earlier this month.
It is understood Woods made the trip home to support his girlfriend, Vanessa Trump, after she publicly revealed a breast cancer diagnosis.

The former world number one has remained largely out of the public eye since the crash.
His only public comments this week came in a Memorial Day tribute to his late father, Earl Woods, on social media.
Despite the growing speculation surrounding the Baycurrent Classic graphic, Woods has yet to confirm any plans regarding a return to competitive golf.
Still, his appearance in the tournament promotion has undoubtedly raised eyebrows — and given golf fans fresh hope they could see him back inside the ropes before the end of the year.
